Mozaic (all phases)
Re: Mozaic
Nothing newsworthy here, but this got posted on Vimeo...
Seems to be Ackerberg's "Day in the life of a young, hip worker who lives and works in Uptown" (mono, in this case) as a selling point for the new building.

Re: Mozaic
End of the video says opening summer 2017.
I love how even the video acknowledges that phase I has only one decent looking side.

Thanks for that post. If ever there was a tool to get employees from other parts of the country, that is definitely one fantastic tool to show what we have here that is the plus to our winters. Great cinematography for sure. Would like to know how they did some of those shots. Drone cameras? It showed some of the best at what we have here in MPLS and specifically Uptown for any company that is coming in from outside the metro area. Here is one solid reason that this building will fill very fast.Nothing newsworthy here, but this got posted on Vimeo...

Re: Mozaic
My best guess is that Spacecrafting http://www.spacecrafting.com/gallery/vi ... eos-teaser did it. They are local too.

It credits spacecrafting at the end
Re: Mozaic
So, watching the video... why do they need to park the bikes on the roof deck? Do they have a Vitamin D deficiency?
Re: Mozaic
You have to be very careful with bikes. They need as much sun as they can get especially with our long winters, there are many cases of BSAD (bicycle seasonal affective disorder)
You'd think somewhere in the ramp would offer better protection from the elements.

Hence the height restrictions on the south side of the Greenway.
Re: Mozaic
Nice work, team.
Re: Mozaic (all phases)
Anyone know when the next phase of the mosaic will be constructed? I find myself in uptown quite often, I always look to see if they have started building yet, and sadly I'm disappointed.
Re: Mozaic (all phases)
I walk across that parking lot 5 days a week, there is nothing but a sign saying it will start in summer 2016, so Not sure what part of summer. Think they are still looking for an anchor lease tenant yet.

Summer 2017*

Re: Mozaic (all phases)
If they plan on being up by 2017 then they need to have this started very soon. It will take at least 12 months to get the parking dug out and poured, build the unique shaped building (as this is not your standard square building that go up with a slip form), and do the finishing work on the inside. As much as I hope it is open by 2017, so far we have heard nothing about the parking lot being closed. To the best of my knowledge there have been no permits pulled yet either. So I'm afraid the summer of 2017 will be a pipe dream unless they get started very soon with this project. If things don't change with in the next 2 months then all bets are off for the summer 2017 opening.

The next big project is the second phase of Mosaic, the office project that brought creative agency mono to Uptown plus a parking ramp. Ackerberg has gotten city approvals for an eight-story 200,000-square-foot office building. Ackerberg said the spec building could bring 750 to 1,000 jobs to Uptown, which sorely lacks a daytime population.

I think Nick tweeted their approvals expired a few months back.

Re: Mozaic (all phases)
Isn't there a window by which permits and approvals can be extended administratively?

I don't think you can go beyond 2 years in any case. Once you hit 2 years, you have to begin the approvals process anew.

Re: Mozaic (all phases)
Hey, maybe they'll go back to the city, this isn't that hard to figure out.
Re: Mozaic (all phases)
Interesting. I was starting to wonder if Ackerberg was going to get anything built. He has developed a track record of swinging for the fences and missing. I am starting to fear that his lot next to Calhoun Square is going to be the last parcel to be developed in Uptown. I would like to see some stuff on the properties he owns while we are all still alive.

Re: Mozaic (all phases)
I totally agree with Ackerberg approach. I understand wanting to get rid of parking lots, empty lots, etc. ASAP but personally I would rather have fewer amazing, creative, ambitious projects done really well than more bland, standard, cookie-cutter projects completed.
If you give me the option between a basic, bland, boring building with bad street level retail now or creative project with ambition, vision, creativity and a great street level in five years but we have an additional surface lot for that time, I'll take the ambition project and parking lot every time.
