LHENA meeting tomorrow at 6:30pm - Springhouse Ministry Center (28th & Garfield...in Whittier!!)

http://thewedge.org/zoning-and-planning-committee/

Last chance to have any say whatsoever on the design before it goes to Planning Commission. Also, there's a good chance the retailer will be revealed if it hasn't already (though I suspect they may keep it under wraps as to not derail the meeting)

Glad to see that the basic design is still there. I'll say that I'm sad to see the vibrant bright yellow go away. But I'm glad to see that the extra story on the street corners did not go away. Over all it is still an A- in design compared to most product that is being proposed.

Note that their loading dock is set up only for small delivery trucks, not semi-trailers. This would, I'd think, limit the kind of retailer that would be willing to operate out of there.

The Target (formerly known as) Express stores use smaller trucks than typical stores. And as we all know, they are the clear front-runner for this space. /s

I'm gonna go to the meeting tonight just to observe. It's been so long since I've participated in any neighborhood stuff...and this isn't even my neighborhood (though as a CARAG resident I obviously care about what happens on Lake Street).

EDIT: No new information really. They cannot disclose retailer yet. See tweets from @urbanmsp and @wedgelive for more.

No doors on Fremont due to grade change. If the retail space were ever split in the future it could be 2 or 3 spaces. They are incorporating this into building plans.

Cheapo building sold for $6.75 Million. Or Cheapo Discs. If you're a new to town reporter.

I've seen extra dumpsters there, but not much has happened in the last few months.

To be fair, their website is literally cheapodiscs.com and has "Cheapo Discs" splashed all over it, even if the Uptown location was never really known by that name.

F&C says demo starts "now", planned occupancy in May 2017. Unit count reduced from 130 to 125. No word on the retail (20k sf) or boutique office (5k sf) tenants yet. The property is valued at $2.9MM, so CPM paid more than double that.

Dang, yeah I was looking at that price and thinking cheapo really made out like bandits. Glad to see uptown continuing to densify.

Cheapo didn't make that, Dick Schulze, founder of Best Buy, former CEO, now chairman emeritus of the board, made that. That used to be Best Buy #3, back in the day. Cheapo was simply leasing the space, in the building he owned.

He still owns the old (vacant) Best Buy near Southdale at York & 66th, also slated for mixed-use development. Ol' Dick is cashing out!

Very true. The man is a very, very, very wealthy man. And gives a lot back too.

Good! Much needed IMO. I am assuming this falls into the "we don't want big box stores in Uptown" category for some, though.

If it's a smaller one like dinky town I doubt many people will mind. It's really a prefect spot.

Am I reading correctly that they're only proposing 23 underground parking stalls dedicated to Target? Obviously, a lot of people in the immediate vicinity can walk, but I'm still surprised that they would sign on with that few spots.
