Anishinabe Bii Gii Wiin - (1600 E 19th St)

Postby mplser » October 29th, 2015, 11:00 am

New affordable building on Franklin that is planned. was mentioned in the southside thread a few months back, but it looks like this just received some funding from the city as a part of an affordable housing funding package.

That seems pretty low density for being right next to a light rail station. Only 77 units? I know it's good to add affordable housing and you don't want to concentrate poverty, etc, but this seems like kind of a wasted opportunity for TOD.

The project has changed since that rendering. The housing is now essentially an expansion of the existing Anishinabe Wakiagun, which you can see as a line drawing in the rendering. The footprint of the current project is indicated in this staff report on the plat from the upcoming planning commission meeting: http://minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/pub ... 150920.pdf
The new building shown in that rendering is identified as a future office project.

This project is under way. Fences are up and a backhoe is digging.

I especially like the plaza thing they're doing in that field to the west, too. Will really spruce up the area (that field got sketchy) and makes the connection to the north (already well used) much more pleasant.
