Re: 1810 Apartments – 1810 Washington Ave S
Here are the plans submitted to the city. Looks similar to almost all the other apartments under construction/proposed, but at least it looks like they'll be replacing part of the seven corners parking ramp with apartments. Should make for a more walkable area.

It probably wouldn't be "so bad" if they hadn't originally proposed 20 and 30 story buildings first. As a consolation, this really sucks though!

This also dashes my dreams of reopening Cedar across the river

Nothing really, seven corners, cedar has more purpose, ugly ramp gone, 19th redevelopment for housing, historic awkward grid restored!

I don't believe Cedar has ever crossed the river, although it certainly used to extend northward a couple of blocks. The existing 10th Ave bridge used to extend to Seven Corners, but it was more of an extension of 15th Ave S. You can see on this '38 aerial:

I'm curious to see how they handle the ramp modifications - I actually parked in that ramp last weekend and there was no sign of impending changes.

I suppose you're right. I grew up calling that the Cedar Avenue bridge.
Interesting paint job on the Gas Plant gasometer tank. What a courteous sign for lost dirigirbles!

Was this site purchased from Alatus? The Planning Commission document posted earlier shows TE Miller Development as the developer.seanrichardryan wrote:Their website is bizarre, very little info there- http://alatusllc.com/

This one is under construction.
Re: 1810 Apartments – (1810 Washington Avenue South)
Drove by today, and the parking ramp is on its way down. It'll be nice not to have to look at that thing anymore.
Re: 1810 Apartments – (1810 Washington Avenue South)
They're only taking down a fairly small portion of it, right?lordmoke wrote:Drove by today, and the parking ramp is on its way down. It'll be nice not to have to look at that thing anymore.
Re: 1810 Apartments – (1810 Washington Avenue South)
Actually it looks like about half of the ramp will go down, and it's the most visible part too - the part you can see from 19th Ave S. Only the residents of Seven Corners Apts will still have a parking ramp view.MNdible wrote:They're only taking down a fairly small portion of it, right?
In a related question, why do people think they're tearing down half of a bigass parking ramp rather than building on some of the surface lots south of Washington?

Like between Washington Avenue South and the trench for 4th Street? That's a pretty ugly area.redisciple wrote:Actually it looks like about half of the ramp will go down, and it's the most visible part too - the part you can see from 19th Ave S. Re: 1810 Apartments – (1810 Washington Avenue South)
I guess I thought it would be less ugly without the surface parking lots. Or is the trench itself the ugly?

Re: 1810 Apartments – (1810 Washington Avenue South)
Well the lots, that weird hotel-looking building nestled in between the ramps and the older buildings, the trench itself, plus Riverside Plaza, which doesn't get a lot of love from anyone, let alone U students who can afford new construction.redisciple wrote:I guess I thought it would be less ugly without the surface parking lots. Does anyone remember the renderings from those plans for 4th Street South? With buildings flanking the sides of the trench? I dunno if it's an optical illusion of some type, but it feels like they added like 100 square miles of prairie in and around the trench with the LRT reconstruction. Some brave developer should stick a building in that area between 4th Street and the ramp to Cedar.

I wonder if they're still hoping to lure a coffee shop tenant (directly across the street from the vacant coffee shop space in GrandMarc)
