Good to hear that space will be filled, because Mrs. Dumpling has been called off. It's not happening at all now. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/n ... r-all.html

I don't remember the details, but I talked to one of the guys behind Mrs Dumpling at the Ward 7 convention, and he said basically that the landlord screwed them over and they'd probably end up having to break the lease. Obviously only hearing one side of it, but it clearly ended badly. At the time, he sounded like he still wanted to make it happen. Sadly it sounds like it's not happening now. Those were some good dumplings, it will be sad that they won't be making them.

"We have enjoyed serving the Uptown area over the years and have seen countless changes come to the demographics, business makeup, parking availability, and overall neighborhood climate"

Wow. We order their sandwiches regularly. But business always seemed slow there. Probably it was mostly takeout/delivery.

Hopefully this will be an opportunity to get some more retail into what should be a relatively cheaper space. I really can't think of a type of restaurant that's really needed in the area, though I admit my creativity in that arena is lacking. :)

Maybe Arbys is ready to vacate Arbys Island? Wishful thinking...

Why is the Arby's hanging around anyway? Is it really that profitable? Waiting for the property to hit a specific selling price?

Looks like Super Valu owns the land that Arby's is sitting on. I'd guess that Arby's may have a lease almost as good as Kmarts.

How does one go about finding out?

I have to believe property taxes on that parcel are going to soar. We really need land value taxation.

You mean the Lake and 35W Taco Bell is too far from Uptown? Not when you're driving! Got a Birthday Breakfast Crunchwrap not even an hour ago. Not enough time for the regret to set in yet.

There was a Taco Bell in uptown, demoed for Calhoun Square parking lot expansion. (was previously Zantigo.)

Pourhouse bar might take over the Coup d'etat space in uptown.

While this will likely be the source of a lot of groaning here, I think a place that has live music every weekend night is a good addition.

Seems kind of strange to buy out an operating restaurant when the former Scena space right next door is wide open...

I'm not surprised Coup is closing, it never seemed all that busy in there and the space is very large. That said, I will be sad to see it go. This definitely advances the perception/trend that the core of Uptown is nothing more than a place for recent college grads to party.

I went to Coup for brunch a couple of times. The spread was awesome, but the place was dead, which made the DJ blasting club music especially awkward.
