Maybe something like a historic armory or an now-empty department store?

Or a mostly-vacant Post Office, which is already off the tax rolls. ;)

The Minneapolis Armory seems like a pretty obvious candidate for such a thing, but I actually think that the locations we're talking about (MGM and Schmidt's) are more useful for residents.

This could really be a destination if done right. The Twin Cities is really lacking a large, indoor, year-round, public market like this. Fisherman's Warf, Chelsea Market, etc.
Midtown Global Market. Try it sometime.
Oh, I've never heard of that...

Correction: The Twin Cities is really lacking a large, indoor, year-round, centrally located and tourist-accessible public market.

(Which this isn't either, so.)
If something is good enough it is a neighborhood and game-changer, which this project has the ability to be. It will bring the tourists and looky-loos.

Not to forget that W 7th can have much better transit and maybe this will be a reason to finally get it..

As good as a restaurateur as Russo is, he's a better interview.

At the new Fitzgerald's (aka Salt Cellar). Pretty impressive:

The wraparound bar is huge.
Quite a few television, but they are not obtrusive - feels very upscale not like a sports bar.
I'm not a food person, so I can't report on that.

Baja Sol is moving into the old Four Inns location on the skyway level of the U.S. Bank building in downtown. They had crews actively working in there today and some signs up in the window to say what it will be.

I take issue with the 'restored original brick' reference. They hacked the original plaster off the walls. :(

Also, this is my friend's restaurant and it's going to be bomb.

The remodeling project for Baja Sol in the U.S. Bank building seems to be moving along pretty quickly -- I'm not sure when they'll open, but it's possible they'll be ready by the beginning of January. There's also a Freshii location opening in the Town Square building (across from Potbelly and next to Cassie's [formerly D. Brian's]), and I suspect they're aiming for January too.

Pajarito in the former Glockenspiel location on West 7th is planning to open late this week (Dec. 22nd):

Ox Cart has decided to close on Sundays and Mondays for the winter. Not a great sign.
