Tim Horton's is coming! Tim Horton's is coming! Get ready for your double-doubles and maple-glazed donuts! (Tim's is seriously my favorite chain coffee shop by far.)

It's coming along quite nicely.

Shouldn't this be titled "former Dayton's" ;)

So are they keeping some of the old brick facade? At this point, not quite like the drawings:

I hope so! I'd absolutely prefer that to the rendering.

Does St. Paul have a billboard ordinance?

indeed. There are limitations on advertisement / sign sizes, as well

There is no way the finished product looks as amateurish as the rendering. I really hope so.

A few interesting tidbits regarding this development were buried in the Finance and Commerce newspaper last month:
  • Walgreen's landlord (Capital Real Estate) purchased 18,039 sq ft of space in "Treasure Island Center" for $2.5 million.
  • Store will be similar to the store CRE built in Gaviidae.
  • Walgreen's signed a 75 year (!!!!) lease, and will open by the end of the year.
  • Hempel Cos. is aiming to have the building ready for December.
  • There will be 14 tenants, including Tim Horton's, Stacked Deck, Tria, SPPD, MN Housing Finance Authority (taking up 4th floor, previously Dayton's furniture department).
  • Lease being negotiated for the last remaining spaces: a potential restaurant, and an event center.
  • Work on the building is 30-40% complete.
  • There will be a "double freight" elevator to carry players between the basement training facility and the rink on top.
  • The majority of remaining work is with the ice rink, scheduled to be completed this autumn.

14 tenants is a pretty solid lease up, no? Sounds like a really nice recovery for that building.

Ugly signage going up at Macy's today. Also, Walgreens opened up December 1st and it's pretty disappointing-- interior finishes that make it feel like a Costco store, no grab-and-go section, bifurcated design makes it confusing. Overall low quality buildout compared to the DT Mpls one.

This is truly disappointing. The atrocious signage, the half-assed glass facade, the ugly mural, confusing layout...I still would have preferred spend the money to tear this down rather than be left with this. I actually this this building is worse now than it was as Dayton's/Macy's.

And the Nicollet Mall one was disappointing compared to what they originally hyped it as. Ouch. Very excited to check this out next time I'm in the area.

Official grand opening is today-- that is what the rush in putting up the signage was for.

While I wish a downtown department store was still feasible, I do think this is still an upgrade. Even just the light coming from the massive amount of glass frontage at night gives it an active feel, whereas before it was a dark brick wall. First floor on Wabasha is also getting a Tim Hortons and a Mexican restaurant in the next few months.

I'm not a fan of that sign, but it isn't terrible. It clashes a bit with the bricks... but... I'm not bent out of shape with it.

Not having been in th e St Paul store yet, can you describe how it is lower quality? I guess I would rather have polished concrete floors than those ugly rubberized tiles in the Mpls one -- which looks downright tacky given the sumptuous materials used in the rest of Gaviidae.

The new Walgreens is definitely a disappointment. It looks nearly the same as the downtown Minneapolis location, but the skyway level is smaller and there are fewer services offered.

I work just across the street from the building, so I’ve been able to watch them progress on the upper levels over the last few months. In case anyone is curious, I took a photo of some hockey practice going on a week or so ago at the new Wild practice facility: https://imgur.com/a/7QZAz

Also, they really should think about getting rid of the old brick – it just doesn’t mesh with the new design at all, and it appears to not be cleaned.

The Treasure Island logo is just so bad.
