Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I can only imagine once the Ford Plant site is all finsihed how much of a bustling neighborhood Highland will be. I think we'll need to promote it from "neighborhood" to "Town within a City"!Some interesting history of this site: There was a 3-story Powers department store on this location from 1960 until the late 80s. The vacant buildings were torn down in 1994 to make way for the BN and strip malls.

Highland Park Target Express
Re: Highland Park Target Express
Re: Highland Park Target Express
Apparently Barnes and Noble is NOT going out of business, in fact the Highland Park location has been making more than the average Barnes and Noble store. The reason Target Express is going in is because there was apparently a bidding war and Target continuously outbid Barnes and Noble, so ultimately Barnes and Noble gave up and Target won.
Re: Highland Park Target Express
Who cares if they make more revenue than the average store? If they don't bring in enough to cover rent at the location (and still make a profit) it counts as "going out of business".Apparently Barnes and Noble is NOT going out of business, in fact the Highland Park location has been making more than the average Barnes and Noble store. Re: Highland Park Target Express
So, we need to build more retail space in Highland?
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Highland Park Target Express
What I meant was the company itself isn't going under, just this location has decided to move on. A lot of people I have spoken with regarding this store leaving think that Barnes and Noble must be going under, which is false. Just clearing up that the company will still exist and that it's not going anywhere, just this location is. My bad.....Who cares if they make more revenue than the average store? Re: Highland Park Target Express
To further clarify - Barnes and Noble is not in imminent danger of going under. But it is very definitely heading in that direction.
Re: Highland Park Target Express
Yeah, I can't see it lasting much longer either
Re: Highland Park Target Express
Don't know if this was already announced, but this article says the Highland location (as well as the Apple Valley one) will close on 12/31.

Exactly, in the space that opened up next to the Blockbuster.

Annnnd this went full circle.
Re: Highland Park Target Express
I'm still confused and a little saddened by the letters people are writing in to The Villager about how they desperately need a place to sit and read and with B&N leaving they just won't know what to do with themselves. It's not as though there's a newly remodeled library 2 blocks away or anything. Or, heck, Half Price even closer.
Nevermind the "oh noes, corporate store is coming to Highland" teeth gnashing. It's sad to see a local independent retailer like Barnes and Noble close?

Look at all those people in that parking lot! And more empty parking spaces than full!
