Rainbow set to come down May 16th. Full permits by September.
I might have missed it but I haven't seen that reported anywhere. Source?

Union Park District Council staff met with the city and development partners last week.

Part of the write up on the UPDC page seems to contradict itself a bit. First they have this sentence:
"They are planning for earthwork on the bus barn site and the demolition of the Rainbow Foods portion of the Midway Center to happen beginning May 16."
But further down they have this:
"...the project is on hold because the stadium design requires the use of a portion of Midway Center property (currently Rainbow Foods) and no agreement has been reached between the stadium owner (McGuire) and Midway Center owner (RK Midway) on the transfer or use of that parcel of land."
Maybe the FAQ section was just not updated and only the beginning of the write up was updated? Also, how are they going to only demolish the Rainbow and not the rest of the strip mall, especially the part right next to Rainbow? Guessing it won't look too pretty.

Yeah, sounds like a lack of updating. Look at the wayback machine for the page if you want to verify what was recently updated.

Here's more information that confirms the UPDC update wasn't a definitive go ahead.

You've got to hand it to McDonald's real estate acumen.

Tangentially related to the topic, but the Orlando soccer club created an app to sell tickets directly to fans, bypassing third party sellers of tickets.

Hope our team tries the same, eliminate the middle man cut.

It is a good idea. Except I guarantee that the team will impose price floors. The Timberwolves and Lynx do this and it is annoying. Also in order to gift someone else tickets they need to have the app as well.

I've tried giving people extra Wolves tickets only to give up when some baby boomer with an ancient Android phone gets cold feet. They find out they had get the app (for some is tricky), register the app, enter personal information, enter a credit card, answer an email. Much more involved than just handing over tickets.

It is the future, but not all advancement is to the benefit of the consumer.

The Timberwolves (and Lynx) have a notoriously bad ticketing vendor. They're all bad, but whatever system they use is the worst.

I hope they don't have price floors. it guarantees tons of empty seats, lack of interest and the club ends up giving away lots of tickets to get people there. we had free wolves ticket offers at work every couple of weeks all season. This may not be a problem for the United due to heavier demand in their first season, but their ticket prices start at 20 and go up from there pretty significantly.

I was hoping for a collaborative sponsorship from the Sun Ray Center and Ovation Cell Therapy. SunOva Pitch.

So the announced attendance at today's game was about 35k, and it looked like the actual attendance was near that - the lower bowl was pretty much full, and there was a significant number in the front of the upper bowl. That despite a snow storm.

I doubt they'll see a total near that again, as a lot of people in sure came because it was the first game. Still, it indicates that their estimated capacity at their new stadium may well result in a fair number of sellouts, and may allow them to charge a decent price.

Of course, they will need to deliver a better product to keep people coming - Minnesotans are finicky, and while a 6-1 blowout may not dampen spirits much for a new expansion side (it was widely expected to be that way), they have a relatively narrow time window to become competitive if they want to keep big crowds. Clearly the potential for a full stadium in the Midway is there, though.
