Kelly's Depot Development - 241 E Kellogg Blvd

Private buyers have made an offer to buy Kelly’s Depot Bar, a decades-long fixture on St. Paul’s Kellogg Boulevard, and replace it with a seven-story apartment building.

The city’s Heritage Preservation Commission will review the proposal on Oct. 4. The site, at 241 Kellogg Boulevard E., sits across from Ramsey County’s Union Depot transit hub and within the Lowertown Historic District, a 16-block warehouse district in downtown St. Paul.

Nothing to be lost architecturally, certainly. I really hope that Kelly's can live on in a first floor retail space, however. If they do so, it's a win-win.

Also says the Kelly family will be honored with the new apartment but uncertainty if the bar will go on somewhere else. It was for sale for quite a while, so it seems someone wanted to get out of there.

"Jim LaValle, principal of St. Paul-based TJL Development, said plans could still change, but for the time being there's no commercial space in the project."

Work on this seems to be stalled, the work has progressed only slightly from the photo above and there was nobody on the site on Monday. Would be pretty disappointing if this somehow fell through.

Moving quite quickly now. Precast walls and columns just started going up with the arrival of a crane yesterday.
