I wonder if Scheel's would ever consider the Twin Cities market? They are very popular in the cities they are in. The recently built a new wing onto the mall here in Rochester a few years ago, and has been VERY successful. The place is always busy, and we personally get a lot of stuff there.

They’re taking over the Eden Prairie Center spot where Sears was.

And they’ve had a smaller store at EP Center for at least 10 years.

I don't think anyone has posted about this, but there's an aquarium going in at Rosedale. Already under construction, it'll be on the north-northeast side of the mall.

Wow, an aquarium is about the last thing I thought someone would add. It does say it will be in the former Ruby Tuesday's space, so we aren't talking about something the size of the attraction at MOA.

Rosedale is trying VERY hard to stay relevant. 1. full remodel. 2. new Von Maur 3. new "food hall" 4. aquarium 5. maybe apartments? See Silophant's note above...

They certainly are putting in a lot of effort. I don't think any of these things individually would be enough (maybe the apartments), but together I think they will make a big difference. I've been in there several times this year and it already both looks and feels much better than it used to. Other malls in the area could learn from them.

Rosedale is already the healthiest mall in the area, isn't it?

According to this article, Northtown has the lowest vacancy of all malls. But if you only include major malls I would put Ridgedale ahead of Rosedale. With the arrival of Nordstrom it has morphed into a mini version of the Galleria with new luxury retailers.

To clarify, I thought Rosedale has long had the highest sales per square feet.

Northtown is the least intensive of the indoor malls. The anchors are Best Buy, Becker, and Burlington. The old Herberger's is being used by Becker to sell discounted furniture. The Hobby Looby in the mall doesn't actually have an entrance from the mall, and there is a Cub Foods and a Home Depot in the outlot.

Thinking about it, Northtown may be more resilient because of the presence of the Cub and the Home Depot that may drive mall trips that otherwise would not happen.

One wing of Albertville’s outlets mall is suffering a burst of vacancies. Complaints from retailers the wing has terrible visibility.

Or, perhaps there is nothing other than shops on the promenade that might draw users inward? It’s a cute little village designed by businessmen for business and nothing else, that people must drive to.

What do they expect?

From the article it sounds like the property managers are ignoring the low rent district.

Yes this is correct. It has been a top grossing per sq ft mall in MN and it is seen nationally as a top performing mall.

Don't know if this has been talked about before but does anyone have a good source that estimates how many people visit each of the various malls?
I know MOA gets around 40 million visitors a year and I think Rosedale gets something like 12 million a year (though I think that number was from 2011), but I can't find any numbers for the other suburban malls.

This leaves JCPenney with five stores in the Twin Cities: Burnsville Center, Ridgedale, Rosedale, Maplewood Mall, and Tamarack Village.

This is good news for Burnsville Center and Maplewood Mall which would be in really rough shape if they lost another anchor.

I hope Eden Prairie Mall takes a queue from Southdale and starts to develop the outlots with housing. The JCPenney at EP Mall is within a 1/2 mile walkshed of the Town Center light rail station.
