Those five buildings around a pond on the west side scream Centennial Lakes office towers. Which, while beautiful, is still very auto-oriented.
I think the community generally views Stroadtennial Lakes as a success, though. In terms of public improvements, it's arguably the most beautiful urban park in Minneapolis or its first ring. (Obviously a gravel pit filled with runoff is not as *naturally* beautiful as Lake Calhoun or something, but measure only by the public improvements.)

This development plan is better than Centennial Lakes, though, in that it features functional trail connections from Day 1, and should be a *little* bit more transit oriented. It's also more impressive since it's a true redevelopment, whereas Centennial was mostly greenfield/brownfield clean slate. It could solidify itself as an improvement of Centennial Lakes by orienting parking toward the highway, and human-occupied buildings toward 77th Street. And including housing in the project...

Pentagon Park also gets some points in my book for including a tighter grid of infill streets. Centennial Lakes is bounded by mega-blocks, including the explicably super-sized stroad of Parklawn Avenue. Props for the cool bridges on 76th and Parklawn tho, and spectacular Edina Promenade on the north edge. (Although that was a later addition.)

I wish the designs connected 76th to Industrial Avenue to lighten the traffic burden on 77th.

Have there been any renderings for the 20 story or 8 story buildings?

The main level of the NE wing (closest to 77th) is gone, starting to take out the basement there. They're also pushing debris out of the side of the tower.

All the wings are gone and the tower is not long for this world either. A good portion of it (dare I say half?) was demolished as of this afternoon.

The tower was completely gone by the 1st of the year, Now they're just sorting through the rubble. It's bizarre to see that area completely gone, but I am excited to see it replaced with something much better.

My office faces north from the top of the 8300 tower, and it was incredible to watch this building come down. I never actually saw part of the building falling at any point, but I did see massive plumes of dust from the rubble - definitely cool. There is a lot of clean up going on as we speak (as one would expect).

It looks like phase 1 may be under construction. Something is rising from the ground in what the map in an earlier post depicts as the phase 1 development area. Is this the hotel and/or parking ramp that is now under construction?

You're likely thinking of this. That's an expansion of OATI, based in NE MPLS. Nothing has been done on the actual Pentagon Park land since it's been cleared.

Thanks. I had forgotten about this OATI expansion. Well, it's apparently underway.

I work in the part of Pentagon Park that didn't get torn down and it looks like nothing will be happening soon. There is a daycare with a long term lease located on the main land, I heard from one of their neighbors they have at least a year left on their lease.

Hillcrest hasn't even submitted plans to the city yet, and knowing how Edina is about approving projects I bet were in for a long wait.

The daycare has been shuttered, fenced off, and appears to be prepped for demo.

We have a name and a (non-functioning) URL for at least part of this development.

OK, so the site is now functional. And it contains this gem: "...at the iconic intersection of Hwy 100 and I-494..."

And the Apple logo. Not sure what they think they're pulling off with that one.

Well, assuming that the category "freeway interchange" can be iconic, Basilica Junction (12/394/94) is probably more iconic, but other than that, I'm not sure what beats 494/100 (or, rather, 494/Normandale, since all the interesting stuff is in the SW quadrant currently).

494's interchanges with 35W and Cedar are much less impressive from the freeway level. Even downtown, 94/35W/Hiawatha isn't much to look at.

There is also the junction of Fort Rd/TH 5 and TH 55 at Fort Snelling, with a cloverleaf encircling the memorial chapel. That's pretty iconic.
