Good to see Brad Hoyt cementing his reputation of being a world class prick.

Minnetonka.

"On July 25, 2011, the association enacted a rule banning playing, picnicking and sunbathing on lawns, sidewalks, landscaped areas and parking areas. It also banned the use of bicycles, tricycles, scooters, skates, skateboards, Rollerblades and more."

Asking kids to cross Cedar Lake Road, at about 10,000 cars a day with actual speeds around 40 is a bit heartless for the condo management.

Congrats to those Minnetonka residents for putting a stop to Gassen Company’s crap.

Bloomington residents furious their neglected street costs so much to replace and want others to pay for some of it.

Those looks like some seriously wide streets for a dead end.

To be fair, it seems like some of the anger is directed at Bloomington for letting the street fall into such disrepair that individual residents will be billed up to $40k to rebuild it. Nonetheless, I have to shake my head at this:
The rotten condition of the road is our safety,” she said. “We walk on it, we walk our dogs on it, we ride our bikes on it. People have to drive slowly because it’s in such bad condition. When you smooth it out, people will drive faster and something bad will happen.
And yet, these same residents typically oppose sidewalks and bike lanes, designed for this very reason...

On that note, are there any layouts available for the reconstructed street? You would think that with the bridge being opened up for recreational use there would be at least a 8-10' wide multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists to access the bridge. Otherwise you'll have pedestrians walking in the street (not very many tho - probably just those from the nearby apartment complexes) and you'll have northbound bicyclists slowly climbing the hill, getting honked at, harassed, etc.

Here's what the last stretch of road looks like: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.832679, ... e0!6m1!1e1

EDIT: Oh, I see, sharrows :| http://oldcedarbridge.com/wp-content/up ... 141124.pdf

Who's going to bike to a bike bridge when there's a perfectly good parking lot right there? *sigh*
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

The volume of traffic will be extremely low. I would not worry about bicyclists being harassed, when there will be ample gaps in oncoming traffic for motorists to pass slower-moving cyclists. I think sharrows are an appropriate on-street facility.

That said, this is envisioned as a future extension of the Intercity Regional Trail, which is specifically intended to be an off-street shared bike-ped facility, so I should hope there would be a MUP as well. The proximity of the marsh near the bridge may be constraining width.

What you linked to is just a concept plan, so I wouldn't rule out the idea that it would include a trail.

To be more fair, the $40,000 number is for a large commercial property. No individual resident is paying that much.

Aren't they just closed for remodeling? I've heard nothing to suggest that it won't be the exact same thing, but with an expanded food & drink menu. Their Facebook statuses mesh with this info.

Doing a remodel - they'll open in mid-June.

Also, Broadway Pizza in Richfield is going to also remodel:

I saw that it had been demolished - was hoping for something... better.

The out lots in Richfield are just fugly. The Hub at Nicollet and 66th and this area (Market Plaza) at Lyndale and 66th are in a much need of new life! If the mayor really wants dense housing, instead of "waiting it out" for the 494 strip & the proposed new Audi dealership land, encourage housing at these two chunks of parking lot. It'd make A LOT more sense.

Thanks Grant, I just saw that in the Business Journal.
It's just too bad that they couldn't orient this better to that corner... not that there's much they could have done, but I'm sad that it doesn't feel more urban. Oh well.
