Excelsior Vacant Space

This has been bothering me for a couple years now. There is a very large crappy looking vacant space next to Excelsior theater, and I have found no plan for redevelopment. I've found some old streetview of what it used to be, a nice parking lot and some strange retail space.

Here's the streetview: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.903996, ... 7jWdmw!2e0

And what it looks like now: https://imgur.com/gallery/EJ1Tn/new

I mean the least they could do is repaint the wall!

They're putting a boutique hotel there. It's been in the works for a few years now. Haven't heard much about it lately, but I think they must be getting close to breaking ground.

Strange. I looked on the cities website. Nothing. I looked up the address. Nothing. Are there any renderings of said hotel?

I'd like to see a nice hotel instead of a flooded dirt and grass patches when it's raining and I'm at Dunn Bros

it would be nice to see it go up. I think it would be great for excelsior. I didn't realize they had torn down the existing building. but maybe by the time it goes up you'll have better views from the mpls dunn bros. ;)

I'm a serial Dunn Bros hopper. Each one is really unique in its own way. The Eden Prairie one is in a farmhouse from the 1860's. The Excelsior one feels like a living room. The Chaska one is really different, it's in this very old brick building on main st. I love the Linden Hills one as well. Warehouse I think takes the cake though.

It's been torn down for several years at least - I've been going to Excelsior for a few years now, and I have never seen the building.

There was a meeting about it tonight, it was a special/work meeting for the city council. This hopefully will give us some new information on it. Although I couldn't go there will be video of it up soon

Do you have a link to the video? Is this "guy" with the developer or working against the development?

He is with Graves but he's more of a local of Excelsior who had the idea for the hotel and has done property management in the past. But here's the link, http://lmcc.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.ph ... c9cb9cac89, sound is kind of janky. The hotel stuff is at 2:15:00

Here's another update/summary. I'm rooting for Charlie James to get the hotel done. He's just a local dude pursuing his dream for this bit of land he's owned for decades. It'd be great if it all works out. Also included is news on the much needed Kowalski's that could open next spring on the south end of Water Street.

Excelsior and Lake Minnetonka Cities - General Topics

So I walked around Excelsior last week and looked around at some of the construction happening further away from the lake, and I've gotta say it's coming along pretty well. I'll try to update this as best I can being the person who lives closest to Excelsior ,I think. There's a lot of new construction planned for this year. Also the latest news on the hotel has the final plan approval by summer!

Although I'm not thrilled to see a parking lot next to the street, I am happy to see Kowalski's building onto their chain to Excelsior. I also saw a sign on the "Oppidan" building for I think a new restaurant:

"Oppidan" buidling:

Kwals:

New Library that opened last year. Has entrance close to the trolley stop and regional trail. Parking is behind :D:

Extension of current row houses across from Excelsior Brewery. I wouldn't want to be living there on a Saturday night:

No movement on that lakefront hotel, I'm guessing?

The "developer" has been working on getting funded and final design plans down for almost 2 years now and finally he claims he'll be done by summer.

Dang, somebody blew the budget on the rendering for that Row Houses at Excelsior project.
