"Mall of Entertainment" - Albertville

Postby acs » January 18th, 2016, 10:19 pm

Wow, I'm not sure if this is for real, it seems that outlandish. Apparently this has been known about for years and has the backing of our oh so urban Governor Dayton

Indoor Theme Park, Water Park, Marriott hotel, Sony themed attractions. Adjacent to Albertville Outlets. Apparently this is being led by some Wisconsin Dells Resort people.

Since they announced it has the support of the Governor, I assume they'll be asking for some sort of subsidy.

It's not too late to run the Blue Line extension out there!

I was thinking along the same line but instead more seriously to revisit opening up a commuter line to Monticello. Stop in Monticello, Albertville, St. Michael, Rogers, Maple Grove would be by the new regional hospital, Osseo, Robbinsdale, downtown.

Is that what passes for professional marketing copy these days? They badly need a decent copy editor.

I'm still struggling with why we haven't heard a word about this until now. Supposedly construction starts soon and very high up elected officials have been involved yet nothing was known. Also it just seems like a weird concept in general.

The prime, high traffic location is located along the easily accessible I-94 corridor (80,000 cars a day) and next to the Albertville Premium Outlet malls, a 430,000 sure foot mall with over 5 million annual visitors. It’s also just 35 minutes away from the Mall of America, a #5 in exports to China from the USA.
Is their copy editor named Google Translate?

This seems really similar to when Disney wanted to build virtual arcades to bring their park experience to other cities, but the one they built in Chicago closed after 1-2 years because no one cared.

It's not clear if the 275 room hotel is included in the budget, but even if it's not, $115m doesn't seem like it's enough money to make this a real regional destination.

Also, 50,000 square feet isn't that much of a waterpark. Kalahari in Wi Dells is 125,000 square feet.

The more I think about this, the more I believe the core cities will be kicking themselves for years to come for not landing this attraction. 17 acres isn't that big and that's with likely large surface lots.

I wish I shared your enthusiasm for this thing. Like a Wisconsin Dells day trip without the scenery. Maybe the people from northern MN an the Dakotas will think it is worth it. To me it will be another competitor for Valley Fair really. Mom gets to shop while the kids hangout at the water park.

The fun of the Dells is the drive and the anticipation. You're out of the Twin Cities, the scenery along the way is pretty and it feels like a vacation. Four hours is just long enough of a drive with children and it's just long enough to justify getting a room for a night or two.

You got that right. As soon as I spent 45 minutes waiting to park and get into the worst amusement park I've ever been to, I realized I had more fun thinking about the Dells than I would ever have at the Dells. It's also more fun to leave.

But did you stop for pie in Osseo?

Time will tell if it has the legs to stand on in the long run.
