Mall of America - Bloomington
Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
^That was one of the naysayers predictions originally.
There were a bunch of scenarios put forth: one was that so much retail couldn't be supported and in time we'd start to see the mall fill with non-traditional retail like chiropractors, tax preparation, etc.
Another interesting prediction was that it was so big that there might end up being 'good' and 'bad' parts of the mall. And not just as in areas less attractive for a retail store (which there are), but areas that would actually start to attract businesses like tattoo parlors, check cashing places, and be generally regarded as unsafe to walk around.
I hate the mall, but it is interesting that it has remained consistently relevant. The only real failure is the top level entertainment district, isn't it?

Yeah, the 4th level seems to be the closest the mall has really gotten to having a failing section. Mall management does have a significant ability to encourage stores to move around whenever they feel the need to remodel, upgrade, or downgrade. That's a level of control that doesn't really get exerted for street or skyway retail elsewhere in the metro area.
But as a not-very-fashionable guy, malls in general are failing to capture my attention these days. When it feels like a place is just 90% clothing shops, it falls off my radar.
I bet the MoA tries to control for that a bit too. I wouldn't be surprised if some non-clothing stores are offered lower rent, just to prevent the place from becoming a complete monoculture

I love the mall. I don't care if others like the mall or not.

I think this is why I've grown to enjoy MOA less and less. Any of the interesting concept stores get priced out very quickly, and since clothing brands are often owned by conglomerates, it's easy to see one big parent company stacking a destination mall like MOA with multiple incarnations of their product (Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic comes to mind)When it feels like a place is just 90% clothing shops, it falls off my radar.

Yep, this. It's fine to not like the MOA or malls in general if they're not your thing. But they are for a lot of other people. I see a wider cross-section of the population at the MOA than probably anywhere else in the Twin Cities.I think a lot of locals who avoid going to the mall seriously underestimate how popular it is.

Apparently the city pages staff are contemplating the same thing.

The mall needs to add more attractions and entertainment instead of just more shopping. It needs some more stores for just men too like Pro Bass.

It needs a tropical park for the cold winters we have here! I need palm trees and a Polynesian restaurant like Bali Hai with a hula show and awesome Polynesian drinks.

The only amendment they "allow" is the one repealing prohibition, which is irrelevant, because they don't "allow" the 18th amendment so there's no need to repeal it.
Look, without a source, there's no way this is real. Let's try and be smart consumers of media (social and otherwise).

It is not real...

It's outrageous they're not allowing increases or decreases in Representative's salaries before the start of the next term on their private property.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
I could always use a vacation somewhere warm.
I just think the mall needs to do something different to draw people in.
Pro Bass would be cool. Gondola rides through the mall to get off at any shops in the new parts of the mall. Also, they need a place to have concerts.
Some kind of tropical indoor park with Hummingbirds would be something different from all the other malls.
The mall in New Jersey has a ski lift. An I max theater would be a nice add on.

I think they need a recreation of the Las Vegas strip. And/or a recreation of South Beach.

Killing me. I can not wait to see Paris, Las Vegas, Minneapolis with its complete 1/3 replica of Paris, Las Vegas' 1/3 replica of the Eiffel Tower. New York New York, Las Vegas, Minneapolis would also be quite the sight.

We could build a roller coaster around the 1/9 scale Eiffel tower that you'd have to be UNDER 48" to ride.
