Do you have some specific examples? Some of these are the results of 4-lane to 3-lane conversions already.
Yeah, some specific examples I've noticed in St. Paul are big sections Fairview, Grand, Lexington, and about four blocks of Marshall after the bike lanes end. It seems strange that the city (or county?) would rather paint useless turn lanes than bike lanes when it'd be an easy opportunity to increase bike lane miles without any political backlash or extra cost. Or is St. Paul just really not even there yet?

This is part of it, but I suspect that MSA/county requirements for design based on traffic play a big role in many cases, too.

According to MNDOT's Twitter feed, the new 2015 State Bike Map will be unveiled at the State Fair on Thursday.

Who controls this signage anyway? Could the city change the digital signs downtown, or is that MnDOT?

One good place to start would be on Hennepin. There shouldn't be "Share the Road" signage for a bike/bus lane, 'cause cars shouldn't be there in the first place unless they're actually turning right. If they are there to turn right, they should be yielding to buses and bikes.

Wow, this could be a nice link. Right into an increasingly dense stadium village/glendale neighborhood, and with a straight shot across interstate 94.

If only it could get at least to Franklin.

Correct. The grainy map included in the STB filing seems to show this as the section of rail between Essex Street on the north and the southern side of the Interstate 94 rail bridge on the south. So, what would happen to that project if someone files with the STB to negotiate this as a rail trail instead?

I'd like to see the corridor east of 27th St, including the bridge over I-94, railbanked. The stretch west of 27th to Essex doesn't matter nearly as much, especially since the Melrose/Stadium View turd is already in the way north of Essex.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever thought the illegal rail crossing at Hwy 100 on the Cedar Lake Trail needs a legal and safe way to cross.

They put up some new fencing along the tracks, but it's still easily crossed.

The "official" crossing is the narrow shoulder on the frontage road and to curl up, over, and around to Cedar Lake Rd, but that overpass is nerve-wracking for me, and I'm otherwise comfortable riding in traffic. There's no way in hell I'm riding over that with a kid. There is the bridge a bit to the east, but this seems like a well trafficked area with LifeTime, The WestEnd, etc, right there. An elevated crossing is probably not going to get paid for, but what about an official at-grade crossing? There are at-grade crossings of this same line at Virginia Ave S. and Oakland Rd. The trail also crosses the Kenilworth Corridor track at-grade, further to the east. Does anyone think there could be traction for this?

SLP is going to build a bridge over the rail line in 2018 as part of Connect the Park. Also it's the North Cedar Lake Trail there.

This -- since 27th is the route for the Grand Rounds it's the stretch east of here that matters.
It sounds like there's city interest in railbanking the entire stretch to be abandoned, including west of 27th (requiring rework or elimination of this proposal...)

You may have heard that Hennepin County will be reconfiguring the notorious Franklin/Cedar/Minnehaha intersection next year. To go with that, we're gathering input on 3 concepts for how to improve bike safety in the intersection.

The City of Minneapolis and MnDOT are coordinating a meeting to discuss improvements to the 38th Street bridge. MnDOT is planning to re-deck the 38th Street bridge in coordination with the construction of the 35W Transit Access project and related freeway improvements. As part of the re-deck project, there is an opportunity to improve the pedestrian facilities and plan for a future bicycle facility. This meeting will share the project with the community and seek input from neighbors.

Yep, I'd love to see discussion about an infill station, or future widening of the bridge deck to green it up, or future capping to continue the street wall along 38th, or a combination of all. I got some feedback from Glidden on this regarding the Orange Line planning, and it sounds like there's always potential to push a 38th St station back into the mix.
