In the study they did in 2013 it says that 33% of people biked to work in the summer, 29% drove, and 16% walked. Small sample size of only 51 people, but still interesting how the number of bikers are outweighing the number of drivers in this area of town in 2013. Wonder how much that has changed by now..

On July 11th, from 11am to 4pm, The city of Hopkins will test out a temporary installation of The Artery, on 8th Avenue. The street is proposed to be reduced to a single lane of traffic going north, most parking will be removed with a few spaces kept, and a cycle track installed from Mainstreet to the regional bike trail south of Excelsior.

The city wants feedback. After resident feedback for the Blake Road resulted in the cycle track being dumped in favor of a multiuse trail, the more cyclists who speak in favor of a cycle track the more likely we get one.

The final open house for 29th St between Lyndale and Bryant is tonight. It'll be open house style and will show of the design for the street.

Last night I was taking that clandestine link between the east end of the Stone Arch Bridge and the Dinkytown Greenway.
I see that some of the old railroad tracks have started to be pulled up. Are they planning to fill in this missing link?

Sadly, I think that track removal is just related to the old steam plant renovations at the U. As someone who uses that connection daily, I would like to be wrong about this.

If nothing else, it's one less excuse the railroad has for not letting the city buy a strip of land or even just an easement to make the connection. Not that they need any excuse besides "we're a railroad and we don't want to".

Tried to use the protected lanes on the Plymouth bridge last night, but they were choked with cars parking, passing other cars, even making u-turns (between the bollards!). One bike cop went around telling people to move, but when one left, two new cars would park. I tried to get some pictures, but I only had my phone, so they didn't really turn out.

Nice view of the fireworks, though.

Bike lanes have finally been painted on 36th St between Bryant and Dupont, connecting Bryant to the Protected Bikeway. I wrote a streets.mn post about it: https://streets.mn/2015/07/16/36th-and-b ... connected/

Striping was happening on 28th St near 35W over the past 24 hours (I cross it on my bike commute to 27th) but I don't see where the bicycle lane is going. It doesn't look like it's going on the right as it did on 26th last week.

Was just looking at the layout for the Ford Parkway reconstruction today. I know this is way way late, but my lord this is a TERRIBLE layout for bikes. I looked at it and saw 6' bike lanes and thought "Oh well, that's not that bad" and then I looked at the parking lanes. Seven feet. SEVEN feet. That's way too narrow! If you look at the layout and see that they just layered the new layout over satellite imagery of the current one, the cars are sticking into where the bike lane will be.

I mean, many cars don't manage to park all the way out of the bike lane with eight food parking lanes! This is going to be very unsafe for bikers. If they'd just taken a foot off the travel lanes and the median it could've been at least somewhat acceptable.

Disappointed that the 26th/28th bicycle lanes are only east of Portland. What's up with that? The worst spot is the speedway between Portland and Nicollet, and there are still four eastbound lanes marked on 28th.

The section between Portland and Hiawatha was just resurfaced, which is why the lanes only go this far. The full length to Hennepin is on the city's bike master plan and is expected to be completed by 2020.

The mill and overlay went west of Portland. Not sure about west of 35W as I haven't used it, but definitely up to the freeway bridges.

Oh and apparently 42nd St has bicycle facilities, per this sign at 18th Ave S (just west of Cedar). No idea why they put it there.

Yep. If we're lucky, that'll happen simultaneous to the 26th/28th bridge replacements from the 35W project.

Even this smaller segment has big connectivity gains, though; neither the 17th Ave bike boulevard nor the SB lane on Portland have Greenway ramps, so previously the only connection between the two was a pretty hostile stretch of 24th St.
