Attitudes in Edina and Bloomington might have changed enough to get the dumb law removed but some of the physical context around this line that caused the law in the first place hasn't. It mostly goes through residential neighborhoods and very close to homes on both sides on a single track.

It's dumb that law makers decided they didn't even want to let specialists investigate if it could be done probably because they feared the result of an option that looked attractive to the region at the cost of hundreds of homes being removed to make room for the second track.

I have now heard of two cities on the line, not Edina, who are going to actively push for repeal of that law next session.

This new plan in Edina has a light rail in the renderings at Vernon and hwy 100. I'm on mobile now so can't make the map but they could have this go north south up to westend then to target field via cedar lake trail stopping at Penn too for people to transfer. Could stop at excelsior next to bunnys and then south into that industrial park by 494 then into Bloomington.

I highly doubt a development that tall is ever going to happen in the Grandview district. I used to work for the City and the nimbyism in that particular zip code was always off the charts.

True. That area brought outrage when the Weston was proposed over Galleria.

However, one of my customers lives in Grandview Square, she was positively excited about the possibility of the towers here, and the possibility of the lid.

A small update: I'm re-mixing the map to show more services. This new version (top image) is built around a new 30-degree grid which is more geographically accurate than the old, more geometric map (bottom image):

I'm also contemplating cutting out the suburbs altogether in order to focus more on the service in the core cities. Rather than trying to build a comprehensive map, I'd rather show the more interesting central network in greater detail.

Will you be adding the Gateway Corridor as the Gold Line?

Yes. The part that lies within city limits anyway.

Lake St. BRT and the Greenway streetcar lines. This is subject to change

Yeah looking at the current Midtown plans it looks like the Streetcar would take 13 minutes to get from West Lake to Lake St. Station. I think they'll go with that. Plus the BRT/ Streetcar mix would cost more and take long.

I believe the Alternatives Analysis recommends the combined service because the ridership is much higher.

Thanks David, I just re-read the Final Report and it looks like I missed the final ridership and that's rated at 32,000 with the dual. and would cost $250 million, which could have just been $30 million more than just streetcar

Visualizer, check out "Stadium Village" station - there's a bug.

I think I prefer the rounded rectangle junction stations where the lines parallel rather than the individual circle markers. And maybe larger circle-type markers for intersecting lines.

They are just temporary placeholders. Color/symbols/type will be different on a final print.

Anyone know what Metrotransit decided to call the aBRT system?

I don't think they've announced it yet. We may not know until next year, since the A Line opens late 2015.

Makes sense. I twitted at Metro Transit earlier and got a response back that "there will be a branding discussion when arterial BRT is in service in multiple corridors"

"Gust" anyone?
