Maplewood unanimously approves Rush Line LPA.

Does anybody know where the proposed station would be in White Bear Lake? It looks like there will be only one stop in WBL, and I believe they plan to build a P&R.
Highway 61 and 4th St seems like a logical place to put it for economic development, but there's no room for a P&R in that space. I will be disappointed if the station is not within a walkable distance of the downtown area. If they put it down by Kowalski's that's almost a 1 mile walk up to 61 & 4th.

That's a good question. It was recently decided to be Cedar Ave and Cty Rd E. I haven't seen much discussion on the Marina Triangle or Downtown White Bear Lake station planning.

Just from interpreting the LPA Map:
---Marina Triangle seems to be by Kowalski's
---Downtown White Bear Lake looks to be around Hwy 61 and 4th St.

Vagueperson, I heard back from Rush Line today. RE: WBL Station Planning.
Thank you for reaching out to Rush Line project staff. There are a total of 3 proposed Rush Line BRT stations along Highway 61 within White Bear Lake at the following locations:

• Highway 61 and Cedar Avenue
• Highway 61 and Marina Triangle
• Highway 61 and 4th Street

Attached is a fact sheet that identifies these general locations. At this point in the process the exact location and design has not been determined. The next phase of the project which is expected to begin late this year will include more detailed station planning.

I'm also curious about the P&R I've heard discussed for the Downtown White Bear stop. Maybe they could rearrange that giant chain of parking lots NW of 4th and 61?

EOst - Maybe if they bought out the orthodontist at 5th and Bloom.

mamundsen - So that means there will actually be three stops in WBL rather than one? I would guess only one of those would have a P&R, and my money is on Marina Triangle, though just a guess. Glad there will be a stop in the downtown AND that it won't require a P&R.

The Rush Line Task Force requested that this be the "Purple Line". I'm somewhat disappointed it won't be the Silver Line, though the name is relatively inconsequential. This should start appearing on official maps soon.

"A color is typically chosen to represent the corridor when it is included in the Transportation
Policy Plan.  Please see attached draft letter from Chair Reinhardt on behalf of the Task Force
requesting that Rush Line become the METRO Purple Line.  Purple has a strong association with
the State of Minnesota (Minnesota Vikings, Prince, etc.), is consistent with Metropolitan
Council Identity and Branding Guidelines and will be highly visible on any regional maps."

No kidding. If there weren't racial implications it could be the "white line" since it goes to White Bear Lake. Maybe Silver would be close enough.
If we weren't doing colors it could be the "Phalen Line" since it goes on Phalen Blvd by Lake Phalen.
Who gets to make these decisions?

Agreed that this should be Silver, not Purple, to be sorta consistent with the Gold Line, the other east metro BRT line. Purple ought to be reserved for an LRT line (Riverview, Midtown)

Then we can rename the Red Line to the Bronze Line. Or the Copper Line. Or the Lead Line.


But for serious, I thought the naming guidelines specified single-syllable color names, and that's why they went with Gold instead of Yellow for the last one?

I think when the Chicago El named one of their lines the Brown Line it stirred a lot of controversy since it served a dominantly African American area. Might be one reason why we went with Gold Line instead of Yellow Line, just so we don't get into more controversy than we already have (I hope I don't have to explain further because I feel like I'm already out on thin ice).
