I don't think lighting would have made the driver any less inebriated.

Um, did you read the article? Clearly a drunk driver, and apparently it appeared deliberate.

I guess I should have been even more clear. I wasn't commenting on this particular incident at all. The location of it simply reminded me of something I've long been meaning to bring up. Drive that stretch at night. It is surprisingly dark for a major road. That is all.

Truck driver didn't appreciate being reminded the state law requires he give cyclists 3-feet buffer. He grabbed the arm of cyclist and drove off at high speed dragging cyclist.

That's an interesting way to frame it. I suppose if the victim had been hit while walking down the street toward her parked car, the incident would somehow have been less tragic?

Shouldn't this be cross-posted in transit crime since it involved a bus stop?

(Sorry for the gallows humor.)

I said absolutely nothing in blame of the victim. The crash was an absolute tragedy, and like everyone else, I hope the driver is brought to justice. My objection was directed at phrasing that seemed to make this individual's tragedy into an issue of transit users (collectively) versus drivers (collectively) -- rather than what it is, the consequence of an individual driver's reprehensible conduct with his car.

As of now the driver has been released without being charged. Yay.

Looked a bit for a better thread, but a cyclist was arrested for biking with infant in a baby carrier, choked unconscious twice, and child confiscated by CPS and not given to mother. Cyclist suing. Hard to see how this was in any way not excessive by the cop.

I don't know what's more pathetic, the MPD's report on this or the comments by the public saying it's okay to run people over.
