"Car crash" looks absurd in formal writing.

I'm in unmitigated agreement with yourself that the linguistic construction 'crash' has two few syllables to be considered appropriate for serious writing.

So we're agreed, it will be called "car boom boom" from now on?

I believe the term 'car-go-boom-boom' is used most often in academic literature.

EDIT: Oh wait, no, I just checked lexus nexus and it turns out the troglodytes in the academy actually use 'crash.'

crash, collide, bump, impact, sideswipe, t-bone, flip, wreck, smack, pileup, crackup, smashup, ...

"Collision" seems suitably hoity.

When it comes serious matters like this, I always consult with Gary.

Any updates on the driver who plowed through the protesters? Haven't heard a thing.

I dont think anything will happen to that guy, sadly. If they were going to arrest him they would have done it when he was stopped 2 blocks away talking to the cops

Maybe not a full crime, but there is an insane amount of uninsured driving going on.

This is unconscionable. Especially considering the guy had prior DUIs.

I'd suggest we all write impact statements to the county attorney, noting how it would make us feel if we were to know that motorists could intentionally run into and injure non-motorists free from repercussion.

While I'm certainly not supporting hitting people with cars, I have to say that the photos from the Strib do make the victims appear somewhat less sympathetic.

How so?

Well, it looks like they deliberately tried to get hit for the benefit of the crowding media. By all accounts, the car was moving very slowly.

It doesn't matter. When you have a sea of people in front of you, *you don't move forward!* The driver could have turned around like everyone else. He chose to move forward to make a statement.
