Some absolutely massive ringer cranes have been brought in. Originally the project was going to be done using three sets of segment lifters, but with the delays and early winter last year they weren't able to finish placing segments on Piers 8 and 9 last year so they can't move them to Piers 10 and 11 as planned this year. They didn't count on the availability of cranes when planning, but some became available so they were able to bring them in and install segments on all piers simultaneously. How much this is all costing is still being negotiated.

It's that or make the 135 Million funding gap for the green line into a 133 Million funding gap.

FYI: New Bridge opens to traffic at 8 p.m. tonight!

Party at Lowell park downtown starting at 6 p.m. Not sure exactly when Lift Bridge closes.

I'm wondering if the bicycle crossing will be open? I'm guessing it'll take them some time to complete and open the new bicycle loop. I'm also unsure if they're going to start work on the Lift bridge right away and close to bicycles and pedestrians.

The new loop trail is set to open in 2019, at the same time as the newly repainted Green lift bridge is complete. I walked by today and I would wager that crossing the new bridge on bike will be possible as soon as today.

Looking for someone to write a streets.mn post on this bridge and why it's "good/bad/mixed". Any takers?

Well what a joke, MnDOT. Not planning for the future. First day it's open and it is already over capacity!
