I understand how economic inequality leads to certain types of crimes. But I do not understand how economic inequality leads to harassment of women. I don't think people who commit crimes against the safety and peace of women in our public places should be given that as an excuse. There is no excuse.

I was at Dunn Bros today at westgate station.
I saw a metro transit cop get off a east bound train with someone in handcuffs, and then go to the westbound platform with his detainee. It reminded me of Robert Deniro and Charles Grodin in "Midnight Run".

There was some type of serious crime at Lake Street Station today. Trains are not opening the doors at Lake. As of 4:15 crime scene cops were taking fingerprints inside the north tower at platform level.

That would probably explain the LRT shuttle I saw at Franklin.

Rode the train to Nicollet Ave from the U today and some guy was yelling and making gestures at another dude at the other end of the car. First guy got off at DTE and then tried to get the second guy to get off (presumably to fight). Second guy stayed on the train so the first guy (who is psycho-mad now) starts screaming and pounding his fists against the side of the car as it pulls away.

I guess maybe nothing really significant, but definitely slightly frightening.

I was on a train a couple months ago, sitting in those awkward seats right next to the door. Pretty normal trip, until this sort of vaguely sketchy looking dude got off at 46th, while I was staring into the distance in the direction of the door. He saw me looking toward him, turned to me and asked "what, you wanna fight?!??!" When I shook my head, he looked confused for a second, then said "oh, okay" and walked off the train.

There definitely was. Started around halfway through the St Patrick's Day parade.Mostly saw a very large group of teens storming back and forth down Nicollet behind parade spectators. Didn't see any fights at that time. It was just strange.

Could this end the free bus rides? Reporting says the crowd of kids arrived on the free buses for St. Pat's partiers.

And then they forced the disruptive kids back onto the buses to get them out of downtown?!

There. Problem solved.

I'm sure that made the ride home just wonderful for everyone else. Especially that segment of people who were taking transit for the first time last night because it was free and convenient. They'll definitely be loyal customers from now on.

Not transit-related as such, just idiots doing idiotic things because they're idiots... which is why we have cops. Question is, how do we successfully present that message to the PiPress commentariat? Or are people who'd take Tuesday's events as an indictment of mass transit just likely to have been lost causes to begin with?
