Defending against bike theft

Postby Anondson » January 5th, 2016, 8:57 pm

I got a new bike for Christmas. I bought really nice bike locks based on recommendations to go with it.

It feels like bike theft is given less priority than many other property theft crimes, that there are opportunistic thefts and bike theft rings. I've read of people and organizations that work to return bikes to owners...

This is a really nice bike that I'd like to increase my odds of getting it back, are there bike registries or databasesI should look for to add my bike to? Local, regional, national ones?

There's the City of Minneapolis Bicycle Registration Database. I'm not sure if other cities have something similar.

Write down all your serial/ model numbers and put that in a safe place. Take good photos too. Do it NOW.
Then go ahead and register it in Mpls. SLP doen't have a register. http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/bicycle ... S1P-135608

St. Paul Park has this helpful diagram:
