Hear, hear!

Or the city’s lack of action at 54th & Penn, after a pedestrian death and more of the vitality they’re looking for in neighborhood centers.

Rode an articulated bus today, along proposed pathways for the E Line.

Nora Slawik, Met Council Chair, and others from Hennepin County, Mpls, & Metro Transit were onboard to discuss plans and thoughts with the Community Advisory Committee, including user qhaberle here. (Hi, Quinn!)

It turns out Metro Transit owns the land under the Southdale Transit Center, so it’s not moving any time soon.

(Oops, this was a response to an earlier thought)

A new map has been posted to the E Line website showing a recommended extension to Stadium Village, and further study on the option to extend to Westgate, as well to Southdale on the other end, via 44th/France or Xerxes. The original routing to West Lake station on the Green Line is no longer included.

I think the E Line should route via France, since the development pattern is already node-centric. Then if the Xerxes corridor still needs a local bus, route it via 44th to France, then north to Excelsior with onward connection via West Lake Station. This seems like it would be the best of both worlds for this part of SW while adding connectivity to the Green Line at West Lake and a short walk to Excelsior at Grand.

Are they seriously planning on running articulated buses through Linden Hills? With some of the twists and turns on that route?

I'm still floored, given the impressive density that's being added around the West Lake station, that they've given up on that connection.

There is no point in duplicating service between SWLRT and E Line.

Adding a node where multiple high frequency routes meet isn't duplicative; it adds utility to each of the routes that serve that node. Also, the West Lake routing would likely be faster for riders between Uptown and Southdale.

The B Line will connect Uptown to West Lake, and (theoretically) will begin service a year earlier than the E Line. It probably would be faster end-to-end to go via West Lake & France than Hennepin & Xerxes, but we're already doing the "skip the areas where the actual riders are in order to minimize runtime" thing with SWLRT and BBLRT, we don't need to do it with the BRTs as well.

A flotilla of articulated 6s departs Southwest High School every school day after classes get out, do they have trouble with the turns?

FWIW, they gave the Community Advisory Committee and a bunch of Met Council people a ride along both proposed routes in a C Line artic a few weeks ago, and it didn't seem to be overly problematic. They did mention that the 44th St to France route option would probably require removal of parking along one side to let buses pass each other without issue.

Articulated buses have a better turning radius than the rigid 40' buses.

I really wish this would run up Central Ave in NE opposed to going to the U.

I really wish Central would get its own BRT that connects down to Nicollet. If you live on University Ave near campus, it currently takes 29-59 minutes to wait for a bus to come pick you up. Students are a very high ridership group, and the more we invest in transit and infrastructure near campus, the less people will cry wolf on parking (not really, but there's more data to show they're wrong).

Source: Am a student who saw the 2 get higher frequencies, and the number of people waiting at my stop went from 5-10 to 40 within a month.

Imo the E Line is one of the obvious exceptions to legibility concerns for aBRT routes. Directly connecting the University to the place where so many students live after graduating is an obvious connection. The upgrade from the 6 to the E Line will be substantial, especially if we can get bus lanes on Hennepin as well.

One thing they've made clear at the advisory committee meetings for the E Line is that the ability to redirect service hours from existing routes is crucial to the funding puzzle, hence the recent news that the 21 and (one branch of) the 6 will be entirely replaced by the B and E Lines, instead of remaining as low frequency underlying service like the 84 and the A Line.

The flip side of that strategy, though, is that it requires new lines to cover the entirety of an existing route, or make the call to end service to the part of the route uncovered. So there's not really a good way to do things like splice two existing routes into the same BRT route.

The other implication of that approach is that it's absolutely essential to get dedicated funding for these conversions which would allow more flexibility to re-orient routes when and where they make sense.

Would love to see the extension from Stadium Village to Westgate - Met Transit has been using Westgate as bit of a bus route hub and goo location given development happening in area and potential for more density.

Though it would mostly duplicate Green Line for a few stops, many students and employees live east of Mpls U campus and ELine could be good way to connect them to northern part of campus the Green Line misses.

Anyone make it to the open house last night? Any major new updates?
