I read somewhere from the MAC that JetBlue wants to come into MSP but wants to wait for a dedicated gate(s). The MAC stopped short of saying that they would be coming in here after these gates are completed. I heard this before the gate expansion started in T-2. Sorry I can't find the source.Possible entry of JetBlue. Some info on the T2 Gate Expansion. Interesting note on page 10 of the document, MAC illustrates potential 2016 usage and layout. It would appear Sun Country will take over H1-H7, Southwest with H8-H11 and some overflow at night and in the morning to H12. Then there is an A320 at H13...no clue what airline they are referring to for the gate.
I believe this document was from earlier in the year, however I just came across it today.

Any source on that, or just your own speculation?

Re: MSP Airport
It makes sense even down to the color MAC used on the report diagram. I was just wondering if there was any fact behind it, other than our guesses.Just conjecture, but Sun Country and Southwest are all 737 fleets, but JetBlue flies A320's. Of course, so does Frontier and Spirit...

Re: MSP Airport
Wow. Nice get!
Re: MSP Airport
Will they now pull out of MSP-NRT? I know they were expecting to lose it anyway, but is this simply replacing that service?
Re: MSP Airport
99.9% yes.

Re: MSP Airport
Anyone want to interpret the DOT's language here?Notwithstanding the terms of ordering paragraph 7 above, specifically with regard to Delta’s Minneapolis award, if Delta significantly deviates from its Minneapolis proposal in this proceeding then Delta’s authority will automatically terminate and the backup carrier’s authority will automatically activate.
Re: MSP Airport
Some more info on the new route.

Re: MSP Airport
If Delta doesn't fly the route with the schedule and the aircraft that they bid with, they'll lose the slot to the next bidder in line.Anyone want to interpret the DOT's language here?

Re: MSP Airport
I was reading through the rest of the document to see if they were also required to maintain MSP-NRT in any way, and it looks like they're not required to do that according to the award.
Re: MSP Airport
If you've read the whole document, the bit about backup authority to American's DFW on our line is probably a really good thing. Basically, the document lays out that Delta was awarded the MSP route *DESPITE* their displeasure with how Delta screwed up on the DTW and SEA service in the past. The backup authority bit means Delta has officially been put on notice that if they screw up another one of these, they're putting themselves at real risk of not receiving the awards in future. So they really don't want the MSP service to fail. That's the good news.
The bad news is, the document explicitly talks about MSP-NRT being expected to go away, so it's almost like this is recompense for that rather than a legit new service. For Minneapolitans with destinations in Tokyo, it's probably a good tradeoff. But for connections, I think NRT would be better.

Re: MSP Airport
Ha...I remember reading that Dallas is better than MSP article. #karma
Re: MSP Airport
So, the snotty tone of the DFW article is one thing, but aren't its points pretty valid? Larger metro, more connections, center of its region. Why is MSP being awarded the flight?
Re: MSP Airport
Because dfw has lots of other options to Asia, and this is the only major Asia flight in the upper Midwest?

Re: MSP Airport
Correct. I think it's about being the only non-stop option from MSP whereas DFW has multiple.
Re: MSP Airport
Replacing NRT with HND sucks from my point of view. BKK and SIN are now two-stop destinations. Getting ICN would fix that issue, though.

Re: MSP Airport
Is it possible or even probable the carriers now switching to HND would create opportunities for one-stops to BKK and SIN?
