How about a compromise and SPUD becomes a Super Target?

This reminded me of our SPUD quarrels.

The Java Express coffee shop has moved into the suite on the northwest corner of the headhouse (suite 120, i think). That's the same room that had been used several times for open houses by Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority. The coffee shop had temporarily been in the kitchen space formerly used by Christos. No sign of work yet for the new restaurant/caterer that's supposed to occupy that space going forward, but I suppose that'll happen pretty soon (if not this month, then probably in January).

They're having several holiday events over the next few weeks, including the return of the European Christmas Market, which will be open for its first weekend starting this evening. Here's a schedule of stuff:

@ $1,500 per month. I know acorns grow into mighty oaks, but it's tough getting too excited about this.

I don't think the lease terms are really the point. At least the space is being used for something and will draw in more visitors to the lovely space.

Well it sounds like its office space, not a space they'll be putting on rotating exhibits, so it's not really going to draw in many, if any, visitors.

Never has SPUD felt like Penn Station until tonight. Massive crowd coming and going on the Northstar Holiday Train. With only two staircases and one elevator to the platform it may be wise to plan another entry if/when SPUD gets major commuter and intercity rail service. I'm thinking a bridge or tunnel connecting between the trail along the river and Kellogg Blvd. Then people don't have to go through the actual building.

The restaurant, Union Depot Bar & Grill, has been open since late June. It's operated by Kaskaid Hospitality, best known for Crave and Union in downtown Minneapolis (the City Pages article also says Cowboy Jack's, but I think they must have confused that with Burger Burger, which is next door to the Cowboy Jack's at MOA...)

Had HH there back in July. Not a bad spot for that.

Well, this is a little odd to post, but an episode of Lifetime's My Great Big Live Wedding was broadcast from Union Depot last night. I grew up going to school with the groom, Rob Ronnenberg, and briefly met the bride, Jen, a few years ago (though I figured they were already married). She has cystic fibrosis and had a lung transplant in 2017. A video of her first breaths after the transplant went viral, and here we are...

I got distracted last night and haven't watched it yet, but it should show up on Lifetime's website any moment now (though you need a login through your cable company to view it):

The St. Paul Farmer's Market is going to set up indoors at Union Depot year-round on Thursdays from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, starting this Thursday, October 17. Apparently they did that for six weeks last year.
