It's probably more about being economically conscious...

With the right incentives, economic and environmental objectives can align.

Speaking of salvaging copper pipes, I assume that you all saw this?

A gas leak at the old Sally's Saloon in Stadium Village early Thursday afternoon delayed the final return trip by 15 minutes... Virden said the leak happend because crews doing demolition work at the eatery began pulling copper wire out of the building before the gas line was shut off.

DOH.

Demolition began this morning. They seemed to be going pretty fast at the time as they do have two excavators on site.

Does anyone know what the ownership of these lots was before? Did Sally's own their own building? What about the other storefronts?

The owner of Sally's owned the whole structure, which is why he was able to demand Sally's return as a condition of the sale. I believe the other ground floor businesses are "in talks" to return as well, though I haven't seen anything confirmed.

After they closed down at the beginning of July, the sign at Goldy's Locker Room said they'd be returning when the building was complete, and the sign at Steady Tattoo said they'd be reopening on West Bank in September. No idea about Topper's or Maverick Software, but I doubt if Maverick would even want a storefront space.

I mean, as an owner, who wouldn't want guaranteed, trustworthy tenants? On the other hand, who would want to live above a loud bar? Either way, not my problem I guess.

For what it's worth, I didn't go to the U but if I ever went to Nordeast (which was almost never, despite many friends who went there) I'd go to Sally's......it's great, and it should stay and I'm glad it is staying!

Sally's isn't anywhere near Nordeast...

Pile driving has been ongoing this week. Hopefully it will be done soon - it's raising quite the ruckus in Stadium Village.

Looks like this'll be called The 700 on Washington. I told you guys we had bottomed out on stupid trendy apartment building names.

Also, looks like the managing company doesn't realize that there's three 700 Washington Avenues in Minneapolis. Oops.

Edit: Interestingly, typing "700 Washington Ave, Minneapolis" into Bing Maps directs you to Southeast. Looks like Campus Apartments got Scroogled.

The map on the location has the wrong 700 Washington. WOW! That's confusingly bad.

Maybe it's just me, but I think being a Gopher student aimed housing project you would want to be on Walnut. Endless marketing options... right?

2.5 out of the 4 foundation walls appear to be complete, the south wall starting to rise above ground level. Interestingly, they're using cinder blocks filled with concrete for most (not all) of the foundation, rather than straight poured concrete (only on the south wall so far).

Does anyone else get the feeling from the renderings that the yellow panels are actually going to be more of a brassy metallic panel? that could be really cool against the black brick/panels.
