I was looking through the archives and never found anything about this, but there have been talks of this research park being developed for years now. The latest I was able to find was from February:

I am going to try to do some digging and figure out if any progress has been made on this. I'm hoping to write a column on the potential demolition of the grain mills in this area and if any adaptive reuse would be possible (or feasible).

IT has been a few years since anything has really been mentioned about this. I think it was part of the light rail redevelopment district. Another thing was I done think they ever got much state support or private capital to do anything do to the slow economy. IMO

Looks like this "Innovation District has some momentum again and some demo work has started along the U of MN Transitway:

Biking down the Transitway I noticed a lot of trees have been removed and parts of some of the old structures around the machinery building mentioned in this article that will apparently be rehabbed.

Here is another article about it including a map from a month ago that I dont recall being posted before:

Looks like it is a separate project within the boundaries of the innovation district shown in the 2nd link i posted before. The building in the first link i posted is kinda by Surly on the Transitway between 29th & 30th.

Either way good to see a couple proposals in this area, it would be nice to see this area cleaned up and developed.

Not directly within the Research Park boundaries, but I just chatted with someone at the old Harris Machinery site for a bit, and it sounds like the developer wants to put a hotel in this site. Sounds like they are also going to try to preserve the original Harris building too, but is in really rough shape right now.

Some of the oldest buildings that are in the roughest shape, tend to clean up and work out the best for rehabbing.
