Anyone know what the K-A guy is talking about with the Wells Fargo reference? Completely confused by that.
Sounded to me like the financing for the development is being provided by Wells Fargo

Sort of sad to think that it's most economical to demo old concrete/steel/brick construction and replace with stick frame than it is to reuse what we already have.

Not everything that is old is worth saving... now if only they could build components in a way that could be reused...

Agreed. Redeveloping this old building would not have lead to quality of life this new develop can provide.

The existing structure is rubble, witht the exception of the chimney. Would have been cool to incorporate that into a little park in the middle of the complex. Looks kind of like the Washington Monument.

Ate at Burrito Loco yesterday for lunch and got a good look at this project. The very east side is already up to the 1st floor. The rest of the site is one big massive hole with some footings. It is really unbelievable how big this site is.

Somehow I missed that the ground level will have "a series of walk-up townhome units on the ground floor, allowing residents to have direct access from the adjacent sidewalk" - BRAVO! How wonderful is it that we have a giant mega project what will have more or less a continuous street frontage of doors and likely small patios? I'd like to see a more realistic rendering of what it wil look like than those pics provide, but very cool.

I guess the resolution on my PC is not high enough to show the 13th Ave passage.

I drove by the other day and took a picture, but apparently it was too big to upload onto the site and I forgot about it. The site definitely looked different with nothing there.

These renderings make me hate it less, but it still is massive and blocks critical arteries. The retail is great, the walk up town homes are great, but the massing and material usage are going to be a little hectic. It's the 222 of Dinkytown. (though highly more appropriate here than in Downtown)

I was near this site last week, and it is massive. Here's a photo, but it doesn't do it justice. This is looking NE across the site from 5th St SE. Outside the frame of the photo (to the left) there is concrete above the ground.

the image is coming up blocked...

This project IS definitely massive, but there are projects out there (mostly in the Sun Belt and the coasts) with 500, 600, 700+ units (and they aren't necessarily skyscrapers)! I can't even imagine something so bulky being built here, and I'm already kind of luke warm about projects over 200 units (unless they're skyscrapers) and prefer smaller infill, or at most, modest developments between 50 and 150 units.

I walked by this the other day and the hole in the ground is gigantic. Curious how this ends up.

Gotta say, this is a big hole, that's what she said, I hope it turns out presentably. You kinda would think that the Save Dinkytown folks would have gotten much more riled up over this, or at least gotten riled up for it before the Opus project across the street. I wish they'd gotten them to reopen 13th Avenue through the site, at least.

Wow I'm surprised how fast this went from hole in ground to this. Also, do we have any hard details on how that pedestrian walkway connecting 13th to 13th will work? It seems quasi-public but the gates on each end could be what makes it unusable after certain hours...
