I'm so glad something is happening here. I hope the industrial parcel south of this along the creek happens soon next.

Am I blind or does the article not mention the address of this place at all? I assume this is in the West Loop based on the rendering, but I honestly can't tell.

The article doesn't mention it, but there's a map. This is the southeast quadrant of 2nd Ave N and Cedar Lake Road.

Yeah, I barely spotted the map. The map shows the property bought spans portions of four blocks.

Ah, map wasn't loading at all - was just a big empty box. Can see it now. Thanks!

Not sure this is still being called Currie Market. Nick tweeted this .pdf.

"Leef", huh?

Also, why rezone the southern portion to C1, then also get a variance to exceed the max floor area in a C1 zone? Why not just rezone it to C2 or whatever?

This project is being recommended for approval by the planning commission at their upcoming meeting.

Now called the Leef Block (PDF), and it now has a new 66k sf commercial building rather than salvaging the old one. Also a new 100 unit apartment building.

Kind of interesting.

"Wellington also controls about 5 additional acres in the Harrison neighborhood in the southwest quadrant of Second Avenue North and Van White Memorial Boulevard. The developer plans to build flex office space on the site that would be similar to the developer’s Greenway Office Building at 2801 21st Ave. S., which offers office and warehouse space, David Wellington said."

This is pretty well underway. There's a number of other projects in the neighborhood that seem to be going on too. Nice to see this area get worked on a little.

Drove near this on a zigzagging route home exploring back streets. As noted, it’s far along and looks nice.

The next phase of this project is coming before the CPC in their marathon virtual meeting next Monday. A five story office building on the south side of Currie, with surface parking behind and a coffee shop space on the James corner.

Here's the packet.
