Well :-), at least they will be able to take the light rail after the parking garage floods. Lol

This looks very exciting. Anyone know who did the design?

So is this just the building in the foreground or is it including the two glass buildings behind it as well?

It's hard to tell. My guess is that it's a phase development. It would be cool if they could start building all the parts at once, But that's probably an unrealistic idea. I agree that this is one of the most "sexy designs" i've seen.

Well, if they did move the proposed 8ish story parking ramp underground, and if the water table is only 20ish feet down, they may have to do like the K-A block and do one giant garage under the whole block, and thus develop the whole block at once.

I can't wait to see the plans that go before the planning commission!! Probably a long time off though. Maybe?

That looks kind of awesome. Although I'm wondering a bit about the post-game crowd management.
Shouldn't be an issue, as the current crowd does not even touch this site, this would actually give more room for the post game crowd.

But don't people currently park in that lot during games?

Yes, but it is a small lot, and that doesn't impact the queuing for getting on the LRT after games.

Didn't we already determine that the new development would have a huge parking garage, too?

The reaction over at gopher hole is more measured than I anticipated. One very sane comment lamenting the loss of tail gating.

Yeah, I would have expected a little more insanity about the loss of parking used seven times per year. Good job, gopher fans.

If they do end up placing that parking ramp nearby, I hope they can wrap the bottom level with retail, I mean the bottom level of the parking ramp.

A post from Gopherhole.com:
"...Good and bad I guess. That Days Inn could use a makeover, but I am loathe to have to give up such a sweet spot."

This kind of sums up everything about driving in the US. As long as driving remains so easy, cheap and convenient, people with disposable income will continue to do it. This poster has a "sweet" spot which means that it is very close to the stadium so he/she can drive right up to the stadium (ostensibly).

I have had season tickets to Gopher football for 9 years. I've "tailgated" once but somehow I still enjoyed college football the other 8.9 years. "The city" should give no consideration to tailgating as part of their development plans. To leave any valuable property as a surface parking lot so people can stand around a portable grill for several hours with a beer in their hand is beyond preposterous. To say that tailgating is a luxury is insulting to the word luxury.

@archipolis agree with you. I especially agree with your statement about driving being so cheap. Driving culture is extremely subsidized.

I think it is important that a place be provided for people to eat outside of the stadium and relax. I don't think that means it has to be a parking lot. The idea of tailgating itself must change. They could use a small portion of the property to make an area for food vendors fairly close to the light rail. Maybe they could even provide outlets so people could bring me a George Foreman grill, or something of that sort.

Well, see, the current situation is a bit of a trainwreck, so I'd hope that as they develop this lot (which is where people should be staging for the post-game train instead of in the street), they're at least thinking about post-game crowd management improvements.
