Important to remember that tailgating as a thing sprung up because suburban football stadiums surrounded by acres of parking had no other access to pre-game food and drink. Tailgating is itself a poor imitation of an urban experience, I don't think we need to devise an urban imitation of tailgating because the original thing already exists.

Wow. Some of these comments about tailgating are just out there. Just because you don't like to tailgate, doesnt mean others don't. And not everyone that comes to the games live within walking distance. 10 people in our group travel over 200 miles. I travel 90 miles. So for us not to have a car there, is a non starter. And if you are going to park your car, it is fun to tailgate. It is a part of the whole experience. If progress causes a tailgate lot to disappear, I will fully support it. But until that time, tailgating is a great part of the college football experience. And guess what, we have 2 tailgate spots for 35 people. Not every single person that tailgates drives a car into the lot. In fact, a vast majority tailgate at someone else's car.

They are talking about 1 big underground level of parking.

As for phases, the days inn may stay open while the office towers are built.

And timing. Not sure. But approvals could start his year and construction in 2017

Any information as to how many residential units might exist? How much square feet of office space?

Two office buildings: a 300,000-square-foot building for the university and a 254,000-square-foot, multi-tenant office building about 12 stories tall

So across the street from this is 2221 University, which is 100k sq ft of office space (according to city records) and the University wants to get rid of that. There's also 250k of kinda crappy square feet in the West Bank Office Building, which is really not a convenient location for the campus.

The non-profits who moved to the mill district when it was a waste land aren't long for that neighborhood.

Is there precedent for the university selling property not in Rosemount?

A little disappointing. I was really hoping to see a residential and retail component.

Is Grant saying that those two buildings are all that will be there, or just what the office component will be? There's definitely at least three separate structures in those images.

According to this post that includes a map from the business journal, it's a 22-story hotel and apartment building with an 11-story office component (600,000 sq ft).

Definitely a ton of retail. Residential will stacked on top of the hotel, it just didn't say how much.

Random idea: since this area is being built up so quickly. Why not construct an Apple Store in part of the retail portion. That came to mind, because when I looked at one of the pictures it reminded me of the outside of an Apple Store. I think an Apple Store would do fairly good in this area. Right now the nearest one is uptown or mall America.

The University bookstore is enough of an Apple Store for the University.

I believe the Rosedale Apple Store is closer than either of those two. Geographically, drive time, and I wouldn't be surprised with Green Line/A Line closer via transit too.

Here is a picture. If you look at the picture I just posted you will get an idea of what I'm talking about. Based on what I've heard on this forum thread, I think it is safe to assume that the building in the background, the one that would be east of the main glass building, is the 22 story tower. I think the 11 story building is the one in the center. I am really interested in the building to the north of the 11 story one. Image. I have heard that this building he simply be filler. It may actually end up being a parking ramp on the north side.
