We saw this coming, but here it is in the business journal. Super disappointing. We got two towers in the 70/80s, three (edit: four) towers in the 2010s, will the HPC be reset in 30 years to allow another round?

What’s the new height? They have been building the tower already. I bet they are up to 10-12 floors already.

Wow this is super disappointing to say the least, from the HPC being foxes watching the hen house to Doran not fighting for bigger to the city not pushing for more affordable housing. Seriously we have 3 full city blocks in one of the hottest areas of the Twin Cities and this is best we can do. I don't think anyone was expecting Hudson Yards but if the best the city can muster is the West End lets just stop pretending we care about things we say we care about.

The trim is for a second tower they had proposed building. I don’t think this is for the tower currently under construction.

It’s for the next tower one block to the east

Thanks guys. I thought we knew that already. Original plan was to have two towers with a low block in between. Didn’t the news come out a while ago that they are delaying the third block?

EDIT: Found it up thread from February:
Disappointing to see that the tower has been removed along with the affordable housing building supposedly after HPC feedback. The change in the east block to a single 6 story structure is a significant downgrade. I am confused that they would back off so easily when they were able to get the tower in phase 1 approved despite HPC opposition.

Should we put the conversation about the blocks to the east of this development into their own thread?

Let's be honest, Doran is using the HPC as cover here. If they wanted to build towers instead of Dallas donuts, they'd do it.

This project, from the site plan to the parking overprovision, to the shlocky architecture, is terrible. Doran is not a good developer.

The tower component of Expo looks like a repeat of the towers of Riverplace. It’s either overdone contectualism, or a lack of creativity. One thing that it does better than the nearby Riverplace towers is that it does not turn a blank street presence or tower face to it’s neighborhood. I suppose at the time Riverplace was built, the thought was that people in those towers would only want to look at the river and downtown skyline. Times do change, and all of a sudden, there is some spice and variety showing up in Northeast. Given what Doran is doing with this tower, it might be best that they have gone to Dallas donuts. A series of these towers might just look like the kind of identical towers that marked imploded projects like Pruitt-Igo in St. Louis.

There is a trailer onsite now with a sign for Altitude Residences. A quick search says this is a building in Minnetonka. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's crazy how this building is changing the skyline. You can see it from University Ave in the St Paul area and throughout the U of M. It's neat to see a tower where you once saw none.

Yeah I work over in Minnetonka and drive by that development as well as a host of others. I don't quite see how they're managing to charge rents at these apartments that are on-par with similar apartments in Uptown and North Loop. Maybe the amentities?

This looks like a visitor from the late seventies or early eighties. It’s not awful, but it feels old before it’s time.
