Seems in scale to this enormous intersection.

I imagine Lil Dearborn is considered a historic building. I'm glad that it will stay as it ads texture and scale to the area. But I'm sure it will be dwarfed by the new apartments.

Got a picture today. Silophant is correct, this thing is humongous. Also, this is very near the new Mesa pizza location, which I just discovered despite working two blocks away. That strip mall needs to be the next "victim" of the University Development Industrial Complex.
Agreed. I'd be all about another ginormous block-long building if it means taking out the strip mall and the fugly liquor store building in one go.

Looking at the aerial view of the strip mall at Washington & Huron, it looks suspiciously like it's following the line of Huron to the southeast. Is this due to some street realignment, or a utility easement perhaps? If so, that's explains the weird little lawn I used to walk across to get to Caribou.

EDIT: Looked on HistoricAerials, and it's due to street reconstruction. All the more reason to redevelop this parcel and gain back some un-utilized land.

The street was reconfigured when TCF Stadium went in.

Walking past there yesterday I predicted to my wife and will put it on record here: the strip mall will be gone in five years. We'll get a nice canyon of six story buildings down Washington. Why build in Dinkytown when there's easier properties to tear down in Stadium Village?

Indeed and before that the alignment of Huron was a railroad that connected the wye at Prospect Park (which I always assumed was Milwaukee Road) with the Northern Pacific #9 bridge.

It appears that, at least according to Hennepin County, the property in this area wasn't replatted following the street realignment.

This one has gotten off to a really fast start. It was only a few weeks ago that the paintball store was still standing; not the whole site is prepared and that one corner has three stories of cement standing already.

I think it's only 2 stories plus the basement, but yeah, I'm surprised every time I pass by it! Does anyone remember when they want to finish by? before the start of fall semester 2015?

That's their goal. Little longer timeframe than the Bridges, but this is also a bigger project.

I like this design a lot better. This is a huge project, and it appears like two different projects and breaks it up nicely.
