And if someone with mobility issues does need a parking spot in front of their house, then make it a handicap spot and put a set of signs in like I've seen in St Paul (idk if that is done in minneapolis).
It does, and actually right now I've got an issue with one on Bloomington (that will likely wind up as an excuse not to do proper bike lanes) in the ward. The resident it was put up for died. The house has been sold, remodeled and sold again, and has a 2+ car garage and a parkable driveway. Might need to try to find out how to get rid of it.
Permit parking is also an option, or just not move to an urban area if driving and parking are that important to your mobility needs. There are lots of people with disabilities who can't drive at all who would *love* to take your place!

Right, and this is Ward 11. Not Uptown. Not the Wedge. Not that parking is even particularly hard in those places, but the ward is all housing. Even at 48th and Chicago, about as busy as the ward gets, I've never had to park farther than the next block over. Parking is just not an issue at all in the ward.

This conversation seems to be missing the main part of the story, which is that the Strib *really* hates John Quincy. Here they are, endorsing the full slate of incumbents and/or "Mpls Works"-supported candidates, and John Quincy is the one that the Strib found too objectionable to return to the council, preferring a more progressive candidate in his place. I'm sorry, but that is 10x more interesting than their cheap shot at Mauter.

Both things can be interesting. Also, it's not really interesting that they aren't for the completely absent incumbent who any constituent can tell you doesn't do the most basic aspect of his job.

Again, what's most interesting to me is that Mauter & Schroeder are substantively much more similar than either of them and Quincy, yet Strib has Quincy in the middle. Hard to escape the implication that it's more radical and controversial when the queer woman of color says it.

Yesterday I got some early voting numbers from the Minneapolis elections staff. 7,260 early votes cast so far. Here are the numbers by ward:

Ward 1: 248
Ward 2: 262
Ward 3: 610
Ward 4: 120
Ward 5: 159
Ward 6: 3,389
Ward 7: 530
Ward 8: 237
Ward 9: 478
Ward 10: 267
Ward 11: 279
Ward 12: 330
Ward 13: 351

It will be interesting to see if Ward 6's inflated number is the result of a big effort to turn people out early, or if turnout will be really high on election day, too. If so, I wonder what ramifications that will have on the mayoral campaign. Frey has made some visible efforts to connect with the Somali community.

I door knocked International Market Square today. First time I've been in that side of the building. Approximately 95% of the households had dogs.

In Park Board news, RT publicly unendorsed Russ on Facebook. It comes across as unhinged. I don't think it will affect the outcome at all.

HA that's amazing. FWIW Russ is legit. He is also bombastic, which can be grating to people. But I have no doubt he will do the work and do it well.

RT's post came across as "I like the Loppet and don't like Russ criticizing the deal." Or at least as much of it as a read did.

Council President Lisa Bender has a nice ring to it.

Disappointed Goodman held her seat, but this would make me feel a lot better!

Sounds like it's going to be Lisa Bender vs. Linea Palmisano for Council Prez and I would imagine it will be close (7-6) like last time, but publicly will be a unanimous vote as this stuff is decided in private. I also don't think it will be as easy to predict as folks might think. Last time around, a bunch of the newly-elected council stuck with Barb. Alondra Cano is (supposedly) firmly on the "progressive wing" of the council, but is on Team Frey...so is she on Team Palmisano too? Who knows. Can't even begin to guess until we know who won in Ward 1.

Yeah that will be really close. I was hoping that Goodman would no longer be chair of the Community Development Committee. But if she's good at arm-twisting some of the new folks to get Palmisano elected prez, she'll get rewarded. I could see her being a good arm-twister.

Yes, Palmisano is definitely the strongest challenger. But she has not been visible outside her ward. I'm guessing Lisa did a bunch of behind-the-scenes work for other candidates, but that's just speculation.

Seems like Bender, Gordon, Ellison (assuing he wins), Cunningham (if he wins), Jenten/Fletcher, Jenkins would be solid votes for Lisa. Cano is a wild card. Who did A. Johnson vote for last time? Schroeder would seem to be a likely Bender vote if he wins.

I think Lisa may not need Cano's vote depending on how the 2nd and 3rd choices play out. She looks like the front-runner to me.\

Cano could end up being the biggest loser-winner.

Hard to see how Schroeder doesn't win. I can't imagine many Mauter voters ranked Quincy second.

According to this reporting, Andrew Johnson was a Glidden supporter for prez in 2013. https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... uncils-dyn

I saw Palmisano's staff campaigning with Cano over the past few days. I think Cano is pretty tight with Frey and Palmisano right now, and I would expect her to back Palmisano.

It's so bizarre...

Many of her hard-core backers are getting more and more upset with her. Like I said, the biggest loser-winner.
