Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

A general thread for rumors.

I don't know much, but someone is doing some engineering work ahead of an office proposal on the corner of 5th ave north and 4th street. Can't be more than 3 stories or so, as there are view easements in the area. That's all I've got.

The proposal part is no rumor because the property's new owner pitched this at the warehouse district neighborhood assoc mtg last month. Office space, and less than 4 stories.. The rumor is what it will actually be- I have heard the idea floated of retail/coffe shop/eatery on the first level, but all too often I think this is part of the pitch to get the community on board and is later discarded. Let's hope that some retail actually makes its way to the finished product.

So I broke this thread off. I would agree with a previous poster that the "Fantasy" topic in the downtown section seems mostly like...fantasy. Which is fine, but a lot different than rumors. I put it in the Anything Goes section because I didn't figure it needed to be exclusive to Downtown.

Is this a wild guess or is this driven by some internal knowledge that only you and a few others posess?

Lets just say they are no lay-offs going and no vacation for job superintendents. The exact opposite is happening right now...typically the bench is full right now; it's not. Plus.......some architects I know seem a bit giddy and will not say a word. It's been very odd the past few months. PLUS, do the reasoning. The boom is coming, the real boom, not your horrific 222's!.

It's going to happen. We will be sick with tower cranes.

Rumours will leak. Be patient. This won't be a false (condo) boom like 2003-2007. The space is needed.

Did you mean "no lay-offs coming" and "typically the beach is full right now"? That would have made more sense to me...

And is the "real boom" the office boom (not to be confused with the 6-story stick residential boom)?

8 months huh.....

bench, meaning the trades. All the stick building is keeping them busy for now...and the big *silent* backlog.

Not EVERYTHING in 8 months. But the start.

You should pursue a career in radio. Great tease.

Between the new Hines building and the possible consolidation of Wells Fargo space will be adding a lot of office to the market... I don't see how that news could inspire much confidence in developing a new tower- especially a high rise.

It's a sexy idea, I just don't see how the market would support it right now. That is unless there is a huge news story yet to be released...

Nasa, I think this is a good, educated prediction. And the convention center hotel may be even taller than 600 feet. And there is strong potential for a supertall to be built. I think downtown Minneapolis has all the momentum to become a boomtown in the next few years. Our skyline will likely to be very different in 10 years. :)

Nasa has had a knack for knowing about proposals before the rest of us since the Ryan/TCF days.

Granted, none of those proposals ever came to be, but they weren't fiction either.

I think you are correct in predicting there is going to be a high rise building boom in downtown over the next several years. This will include several new skyscrapers of significant height. And one of those towers may well become the tallest building in the city.

I think that the United States Capitol will be moved to Minneapolis in the next couple years. This is a good prediction and it makes a lot of sense to me. The time is right for us to move our federal seat of government and build a new Capitol building here, because I thought it and typed it in this box.

retired banker; this is exactly what I was telling you about. It's astounding these people even post here, IMO.
