Re: Apartment Boom
Matt, why don't you move to the 11th Ward so you can have a short bike commute to work?
Re: Apartment Boom
When I moved into my place on Ridgewood in October of 2011 I was paying $675, they increased it $50 in November of 2013 and basically told me I was lucky it wasn't more so when I moved out at the end of May I was paying $725 and I know they raised it for the next person to $800. 550 sp ft built in 1923 I believe.
Re: Apartment Boom
Both of those rents are preeety awesome.
Re: Apartment Boom
I guess that's what the beginning of gentrification looks like.

Re: Apartment Boom
When I moved out of my place in Uptown in 2011 I was paying $910/mo, when I moved out the management company got busy putting in new flooring and appliances. Rent went up to $1050.
Yep, if more supply is not added those with the most most to spend will have the first crack at limited supply.

Re: Apartment Boom
Since we're all sharing...
I love my ~650 sq ft bedroom in Loring Heights (Stevens Square West). It was $700 when my wife and I first moved here in '09 and has very slowly crept it's way up to $730. It has a tons of character and a great layout. It has a new kitchen (approx 2 yrs old when we moved in, so maybe not "new" anymore) with an island overlooking the dining room and a large archway from there connecting to the living room, creating a very large and open floor plan. Other perks include lots of windows, being located on the top floor (no noisy upstairs neighbors), and a skyline view (although it requires craning your neck). I'll probably be moving into a house by the time snow flies if anyone wants it when I'm done!

I live in a 4BD 3.5 Bath house with my parents I don't pay rent.. It's pretty chill not being an adult
Re: Apartment Boom
Mine is embarrassingly expensive, and so I won't share. Next round, I want some cheap rent! Shame. Shame. Shame.
Is St Paul any cheaper?

LOL, I can relate with that... but I live at Lime. The Bro/Bimbro spirit is alive and well there BTW, we love the apartment... HATE the culture.Mine is embarrassingly expensive, and so I won't share. Next round, I want some cheap rent! Shame. Shame. Shame.

Re: Apartment Boom
I have a friend who rents a 1 br in downtown Anoka for $600 a month. I've lived in the same place in Whittier a block off of Lyndale since 2007. In that time my rent has gone from $700 to $765 a month which I thought was getting a bit steep. You guys are making me feel better.

Yeah, that's not bad. Your rent hasn't even kept up with inflation.I have a friend who rents a 1 br in downtown Anoka for $600 a month. Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion
In my 49-unit building in Whittier there are FIVE (5) apartments available for August 1st. That can't be normal. There is a rent increase, from the $745 I'm paying now to $765 ($755 for garden level, studios even cheaper). Still, I can't imagine a $20 rent increase is pushing that many current residents out to cheaper housing elsewhere. Plus, it's one of the only apartments anywhere around here with balconies (new construction excluded). 5 people moving in the same month is a lot, even if move-outs are all concentrated between April-October in Minnesota. If anyone is interested, feel free to contact me privately for the address. It's probably among the best deals in the Uptown/Lynlake area, even if the exact block it's located on is kinda sketchy. Excellent proximity to LynLake. Also excellent proximity to Sabri's properties.

I can only assume he's become a beneficiary of the sweet sweet new construction payola and is finally ready to abandon the city for the suburbs (where all of us young urbanists are destined to end up anyways).

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion
Officially, I'm not moving yet. My lease goes til October 1, and I may very well stay put. I've loved Whittier the past 3.5 years, but I have my eyes on an apartment in southern CARAG (35th St). That would put me a full mile further south, and closer to the 35th/36th St exit on 35W, shortening my commute even further. On top of that, the CARAG apt is mid-block, ensuring that it would be multitudes quieter than my current place. 28th Street can go to hell. I can't take the vehicle noise any more. If the CARAG one doesn't come through for Oct. 1, I have my eyes on a few other places with balconies in Whittier and The Wedge, up around 24th St. Once you go balc(ony), you don't go back.

M'rent in m'Loring Park one bedroom goes up to $925 August 1st.
What's CRAZY is that my building's one bedrooms are like $950 and the two bedrooms are like $1200. That's some math.

You guys need to buy a SFH with a yard and a garage. Like real adults.

$20 pet rent for my 6lb basically nonexistent chihuahua-papillon. Doesn't seem fair, but the cutie's worth every penny!
