I once considered buying a home to tear down in south Mpls.

Right now I'm in a car on my way up north, and I'm listening to a conversation about plans to buy a franchise restaurant in a second ring suburb, and I'm keeping my mouth shut.

I actually get pleasure from pressing "beg buttons", provided they are of the newer optical sensor type. I don't care for the traditional buttons and detest the raised metal arrow versions, but there is something satisfying about placing my finger in front of the sensor on these less-common buttons and hearing that little "bip" sound.

I'm actually somewhat in agreement with the Whittier Alliance board chair & executive director's comments regarding the 26th & Stevens development: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3860

Can't decide the best place to put this. I thought we used to have an "overheard..." Thread.

Two guys in the skyway were talking about how the bad traffic has forced them to finally signup for MnPass. One of them says "But isn't there something fundamentally wrong with paying to use the roads that we already pay for with taxes?"

I knew you guys would enjoy that.

I sort of hope that Basim Sabri becomes the WedgeLive guy's landlord.

I'm meeting a contractor about building a larger garage at the south Minneapolis home we're purchasing.

In my defense, the 1940s era single car garage that's there has roof, structural and concrete issues and needed to be replaced anyway.

If you make it an ADU, you gain all your urbanist cred back plus at least 2x more.

(we replaced our falling-down 1939 garage with a big one three years ago. I'm not ashamed)
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

I've thought about it (in the sense of, "hm, I wonder if we could do an ADU"), but don't think the extra expense is going to something I want to take on.

I had bids for a garage rebuild earlier this summer... I hope you are expecting something close to $30k for approx 22x22 garage. No frills, no ADU, not even attic space built in... standard 2 car. $30k. OUCH!

My house has a 4 stall garage, and a tiny yard as a result of that.

Not my doing though. On the other hand, I think it's a perfectly acceptable yard size for a small urban home. I think Minneapolis lots are too deep.

I also am tearing down my garage and putting in a new one. The old one was 10'x18' and the new one is only 14'x22'. So I don't feel too bad as the old one was literally unusable as car storage. We thought about an ADU but that would've required so much more space.

Yeah, expecting that neighborhood, maybe higher as there is some extra cement work to be done.

I complain about my long commute times. Driving a car would cut them in half.

At 10:30 this morning, I was going northbound on 94 out of the metro and was stuck in traffic. If you had asked me then whether 94 should have six lanes all the way to St. Cloud, my answer would have been "No, ten lanes would be good."
