Interesting whistleblower lawsuit by the widow of the slain Mendota Heights officer against the department and city of Mendota Heights. Each city police department seems to me to have its own "cop culture", some more vigorous than others at repressing dissent and at repressing exposing anything that puts the organization in a bad light.

"When I spent two years without having a car, it was one of the most peaceful, cop-free times in my life. I would still get harassed at times, but it was so much harder for them to come up with excuses for stopping me. ..."

From a deeply disturbing first hand account.

A University of Cincinnati officer who shot a motorist during a traffic stop over a missing front license plate has been indicted on murder charges, a prosecutor said Wednesday, adding that the officer "purposely killed him" and "should never have been a police officer."

Recently it's become more widely kown that groups like the KKK have explicitly worked to get their members into authority organizations like the police, military, etc.

I'm not saying all or even many police are KKK but it does make one think.

^ I'm in Louisville right now. Driving in from Indy this afternoon the wife and I were treated to the pleasure of a guy in a pick-up with usmc and confederate flag bumper stickers yell white power in a gas station parking lot.

Do you have any proof of this? Because the the KKK itself is an exceedingly small group to begin with.

If we use KKK as shorthand for white nationalists, the military is on the look out for being used as a training path for race militants of all stripes. Open racism today is a sure way to get disciplined, but evidence of membership in a race militant group will get you dishonorably discharged.

The FBI warned of this exact thing in 2006: http://thegrio.com/2015/05/12/fbi-white ... forcement/

Excellent article by MPR on the Minneapolis cop who wrote twice as many tickets as the next closest.

http://www.mprnews.org/story/2015/07/31/killebrew

One woman felt it was such harassment she moved to St. Paul. Another pointed out citing lack of insurance are serious because in a traffic crash it all then falls on the one with insurance.

An urbanist can see these as issues that come up for the poor in cities socially engineered around the car.

Story about recent police conduct in NoMi. From the first-hand account, it sounds like a complicated situation. Probably started with some overreach, but clearly escalated. I hope this gets further investigation and coverage.

Video of six cops arresting a 16 year old for not wearing a bicycle helmet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=109&v=hT3zToHrmZA

Besides all of the really dumb reasons to have mandatory helmet laws, not giving the green light to cops to target young minorities should be all the reason anyone needs to oppose these laws.

You need a chain guard so you don't have to fuss with cuffing your pant leg!
