Does Minneapolis allow signs on its downtown buildings?
Does Minneapolis allow signs on its downtown buildings?
This was brought up in another forum and got me wondering... why aren't there signs on the skyscrapers in Minneapolis? Like the Wells Fargo or Travelers buildings in St Paul. Is there an ordinance? What others cities do this? Do you think it's good or bad?

I believe there are limits on size, as Wells Fargo tried to get some big signs on their new building but I think they were rejected.

AFAIK, there are pretty strict limits on both size and height of signs downtown. Hotels are exempt, though, hence the Hotel Ivy and Centre Village signs, and there's a 'Billboard District' that runs along Hennepin.

Are there strict limits for video/dynamic signs? Times Square-like scrolling info banners, and video screens? Thought I recalled a tv station wanting to put one up on Hennepin, but the downtown leaders squealed against it...

Unlike St. Paul, MPLS seems to have a restriction on putting corporate signs on top of buildings. Not sure the justification on it. But I know there has been talk about it before on other sites and threads on here.

Thrivent Financial managed to get signage for it's headquarters. The plans for Wells Fargo's buildings show signage on the south face of the buildings and rooftops. All were approved if memory serves.
