It's almost like that sort of backdoor politicking is a tricky and unreliable process that backfires as often as not, especially when dealing with people like Sanders, Trump, or Cruz that come from outside the party infrastructure.

Young people will still by far have the worst turnout ratio among all age groups, even with Bernie on the ballot. And Democrats will still get walloped in 2018, because young people will stay home like they did in 2010 and 2014 (holy shit was 2014 ever awful). Something fundamentally has to change with getting younger people to vote, and it doesn't have shit to do with Obama or Bernie Sanders, or any other single politician. There are just way too many people who flat out don't care or don't think their vote matters. That has been a problem since....forever?
Yeah, the 18-29 demo just sucks at turning up, even in top election years. 2008 was filled with Hope and Change, but barely over half of 18-29 year olds showed up (compared to nearly 70 percent of 30+ people).

I have so many friends with no barriers to voting that simply don’t show up for the midterms. They care just enough to complain, but not to walk the few blocks to their polling location.

Exactly, he's latching onto the Democratic Party when it's convenient for him.
Welcome to our two-party system.

And I don't remember this kind of tone in 2008. I liked Obama back then but I didn't hate Hillary and I didn't remember much hate coming from the Hillary crowd. No one wanted to destroy the other candidate or threatened to stay home and not vote.= if they didn't get what they wanted.
Bernie attracts people who respond to populist rhetoric. That cuts across traditional liberal/conservative lines.

Moreover, the Republican party has actively encouraged people to caucus/vote for Bernie. When I first heard about a translator being shouted down, my first thought was that the culprits might be Republicans.

If you haven't read it yet, this Rolling Stone article is pretty essential in ongoing the Donald Trump saga. It really highlights the populist ideas that a lot of supporters are grasping onto while everyone else is busy focusing on the racist soundbites. Not to discount the racism, but the writer makes a pretty compelling case that the mainstream public is missing what's really happening as the focus remains on the soundbites.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/ne ... 24?page=13

Here's an important section (edited by me for brevity):
Throughout his campaign, [Trump has] been telling a story about a $2.5 billion car factory that a Detroit automaker wants to build in Mexico, and how as president he's going to stop it. ... Trump says he'll call Detroit carmakers into his office and lay down an ultimatum: Either move the jobs back to America, or eat a 35 percent tax on every car imported back into the U.S. over the Mexican border.

"I'm a free-trader," he says, "but you can only be a free-trader when something's fair."

It's stuff like this that has conservative pundits from places like the National Review bent out of shape. Where, they ask, is the M-F'ing love? What about those conservative principles we've spent decades telling you flyover-country hicks you're supposed to have?

"Trump has also promised to use tariffs to punish companies," wrote David McIntosh in the Review's much-publicized, but not-effective-at-all "Conservatives Against Trump" 22-pundit jihad. "These are not the ideas of a small-government conservative ... They are, instead, the ramblings of a liberal wanna-be strongman."

What these tweedy Buckleyites at places like the Review don't get is that most people don't give a damn about "conservative principles." Yes, millions of people responded to that rhetoric for years. But that wasn't because of the principle itself, but because it was always coupled with the more effective politics of resentment: Big-government liberals are to blame for your problems.
There's also some written about how a lot of jilted union workers are bucking their union endorsements of Hillary and are instead supporting Bernie — and some are supporting Trump. The author makes the case that Trump is angling to pick up these voters if/when Bernie is eliminated. There's some nuance here, so it's worth reading the article, but:
In the meantime, Trump is cannily stalking the Sanders vote. While the rest of the GOP clowns just roll their eyes at Sanders, going for cheap groans with bits about socialism, Trump goes a different route. He hammers Hillary and compliments Sanders. "I agree with [Sanders] on two things," he says. "On trade, he said we're being ripped off. He just doesn't know how much."

He goes on. "And he's right with Hillary because, look, she's receiving a fortune from a lot of people."
There's also a hilarious description of Ted Cruz's face that by itself makes the article worth reading.

It's interesting that on the web story, KSTP reports that Sanders "declined' the endorsement, but in his Tweet Tom Hauser says "he didn't seem interested in Ventura's endorsement."

I had an English teacher in high school who seemed to delight in handing out C grades to the honor student geeks in his class, but always said, "it's not personal, only business."

I will be caucusing for Hillary with the wife. If she was here, you'd really see rough ;)

Best of luck and here's hoping we can all be on the same team in the end.

Yes indeed. Always appreciate a new perspective! This conversation has actually made me change my mind on a few topics, which is always valuable, and seemingly so difficult to do in this internet age.

Here is why I am voting for Sanders tonight:

DWS is Clinton's right hand. I have no doubt HRC would support payday lenders in this.

SO many people!!! Ward 10 Precinct 1 had about 610 people show up, and #2 looked just as busy or more.

I will note that a resolution was passed that the DFL would support small area plans and that DFL elected officials would NOT try to undermine community engagement in small area plans, I nayed... but I was the only one :(

7-8 had about 610 as well, and 7-5, in the same building, had 500+. Pretty great.
