USI will cover the entire area with fiber by the end of next summer and if all goes well we will have our upgraded wireless platform TDM deployed by the end of this year.

http://fiber.usinternet.com and http://tdm.usinternet.com for locations.

Thanks a ton for the support.

-Travis / USI

Is this a Joke? Wireless internet at speeds of 50-100mbps for $30-40 bucks! through out Minneapolis by end of 2017? NO WAY! I been paying $75 bucks a month for comcast and getting about 60mbps via cable. How many gift baskets will it take to put Loring Park neighborhood at the top of your list?

Will comcast and century link lower their prices?

Good suggestions.

This is why I didn't go into IT. :)
Same here, actually. I just do programming these days.

Huh. Went to get a new HDHomeRun firmware and saw this:

Could be interesting!

That is really interesting, especially since it'll record to a NAS. I wonder if the recordings will work with generic video players.

I wonder if the HDHomeRun is bad? Can you still ping it by IP after it's no longer discoverable?
Crap. It's bad. I misremembered the problem. The problem is that Myth can't tune the device. It sees it but I just get dumped back to the main screen on WatchTV.

Now I think I know why. After starting up the HDHR Myth can scan channels just fine. After scanning it can't tune.

I tried hdhomerun_config <id> scan 0 and it can't find channels either.

So it seems after a while the HDHR just can't tune itself. Blech. Back to Microcenter...

At least it's an "easy" problem instead of some bug with how Myth talks to the device.

Strangely, it stayed up long enough to record last night and is still up.

I did completely clear out all tuners and channels in Myth before setting everything up again. Maybe that fixed something...

Still, I'm gonna get another HDHR and use the current one as tuners 3 and 4.

U students need this. I have to make the choice between Comcast and Centurylink this year and I am not happy about it. Already had to deal with Comcraps constant cutouts this past year in the apartment. It's ugh

I got USI fiber installed. It was quite painless and it is quite fast. I'd recommend it if you are the coverage area.

Hoping to be in the coverage area by Sept. 1 next year. Ericsson neighborhood (specifically 34th Ave, north of the creek please). I'm stuck with the evil empire until then.

Mine was turned on Friday and I cancelled the Internet part of my Comcast package the same day. Just waiting on their Fiber TV product to get rid of Comcast completely.

This was the best I was able to do back in mid-June. MBP connected directly to the fiber modem with a brand new cat 6 cable (and the Apple Thunderbolt->Ethernet adapter). I've since done some rewiring and bought a new router, but don't have any of those screenshots handy.

Have you looked into either Sling TV or Playstation Vue? Those paired with an antenna should be able to get most cable channels. (Without an antenna, the only broadcast networks would be FOX on Sling and CBS and FOX on Vue.)

No, I have a completely ridiculous homebuilt whole-home DVR (based on MythTV and Kodi/XBMC) and I'd like to keep something like that working. Apparently MythTV can record from IPTV streams (which is usually how TV over fiber is delivered) so I'm hoping I can make that work with whatever USI ends up doing. If it doesn't work I'd probably check out Sling.

You can tune OTA signals and not worry about the rest, and save big money.

Only problem with OTA is you can't stream the NBC Olympics because you don't have a cable/satellite account to use to login to their website

But that's what parents who have satellite are for.

Having just recently bought a new HDHomeRun to replace the broken one, I would like to improve upon my current MythTV-only setup by integrating Kodi. What do you find advantageous about your setup? I have my own thoughts but I'd like to hear it from people that actually have experience using Kodi with MythTV.

Any tips on getting such a setup working?

And I totally agree with Peter on the NBC Olympics mafia. I'm really sick of all the streaming sites that require a cable or satellite subscription. Just let me buy streaming-only, dammit!

It's a shame, because the NBC Streaming offerings are absolutely fantastic. You can watch every event live or recorded (though often without commentary) but they'll also play other English speaking country's commentary as well, Australian announcers are just the best.
