Elon Musk tunnels

Postby karen nelson » May 12th, 2017, 11:44 am

So any thoughts on this latest moonshot by Musk?

I'm thinking this is 75 percent of the work of a subway, to carry cars.

With AVs possibly taking over eventually and car sharing becoming more common with that, why not just subway "pods" that can carry pedestrians, bikers to hub location (town or neighborhood centers, big employers etc) and from there they catch a share-car, traditional transit, or walk or bike?

It may be a better way to build tunnels, which could be good to bringing down cost of subways.

There's a whole thread on tunnels in the Transportation subforum. Lotsa comments there now. Maybe merge this thread with that?

I feel he's inventing subways for cars when we have a more effective subway for people.

Yeah, it's an expensive way to make subways for SOVs when we already can't fund efficiently designed subways.
