Tower crane count
Tower crane count
Just thought I'd start a thread on this. This would apply citywide.

Re: Tower crane count
Do you have a count estimate? As an outsider (currently....hope to move back someday soon) I can't see what you guys do, so these threads are vital for people like me!

Re: Tower crane count
That I know of, one is up at Track 29, and at least three are up at the U, for the new physics building and residence hall. There's also one or two at Mill and Main.
Re: Tower crane count
The crane for Third North went up recently. It's a big beefy one, and with the 50s middle ages kitsch Kraus Anderson logo it kind of looks like a simultaneously futuristic and medieval siege engine. Anyway, I'm not sure why it's up already because they're not even above ground level yet, although they're moving quick. This is the only crane north of the Cut since Soltva was completed, not sure if the Interchange will get one and Brunsfield Place isn't there yet.

Re: Tower crane count
Velo is not yet under construction. In that area, 222 has a cluster of cranes as noted, but Dock Street is still excavating and doesn't have any yet. The two proposals near the Interchange, uh the Natural and the Trammel Crow one, are not yet under construction.
Anyone notice if Emanuel Housing has a crane yet?

Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Tower crane count
Looking through Elf's photos from this weekend and a couple others, I count 5 full-size tower cranes and 7 mini tower cranes within the city limits:
222: 1 full size, 2 mini
Third North: 1 full size
Track 29: 1 mini
Elan of Uptown: 1 mini
Physics and Nanotech: 1 full size
4th Street Residence Hall & Dining Facility: 2 full size
The Knoll: 1 mini
Mill & Main: 2 mini
222: 1 full size, 2 mini
Third North: 1 full size
Track 29: 1 mini
Elan of Uptown: 1 mini
Physics and Nanotech: 1 full size
4th Street Residence Hall & Dining Facility: 2 full size
The Knoll: 1 mini
Mill & Main: 2 mini
Re: Tower crane count
THe crane count in Uptown at present is 3 mini cranes, 2 at Elan and 1 at Track 29, but there will be 2 more soon. I believe they will not make it until after the first of the year, but City Walk and 2900 Lyn-Lake both are driving piles into the ground so Mini-cranes will soon follow.
Re: Tower crane count
THe new downtown journal has a developement tracker that has been somewhat updated. They are still missing a few projects. But it does have a map and tells basically what each development is and what we should keep and eye out for.

A photo I snapped of uptown today!
Re: Tower crane count
I went through and updated my crane map.
When I last did it on November 12 (almost 2 months ago exactly, there were 5 full-size tower cranes up in the city limits, and 7 mini towers. Since then we've lost 3 mini towers, but gained 5, plus 2 full size.
There are now 7 full size tower cranes and 9 mini tower cranes up within the city limits.

Re: Tower crane count
Since the last time I posted here, we've lost 2 full-size towers and 2 mini towers, but 3 full-size towers and 5 mini towers have been put up, giving us a current total of 8 full-size towers and 12 mini towers. Same link as in the earlier posts.

Re: Tower crane count
Dwell has two mini towers now.
Re: Tower crane count
Thanks, added it.
The other ones I couldn't quite make out from the photos: Elan still has all 4 minis, yes? And both of the minis are gone from 222, yes?

Re: Tower crane count
If anyone would like to see a borderline-ridiculous number of cranes all at once, drive into downtown via Olson. You should be able to see at least three full tower cranes and two minis in a pretty small area. There might be more- I can't quite remember. It looks like a strange forest. I'd take a picture, but I'm always driving.
Is anyone still keeping a head count on these?

Re: Tower crane count
I would guess that we'll soon have the best view of tower crane's ever in Minneapolis. Imagine driving west on 94 and seeing...
-4 cranes for the stadium
-2 cranes for Wells Fargo
-1 crane for the Ryan Apartment tower
-1 crane for Latitude 45
And this is just the east side of downtown!

Re: Tower crane count
Just thought I'd give this thread a bump. There's so much construction in MPLS right now. I've never seen so much stuff going up at the same time. It's cool to see...

Re: Tower crane count
I wonder how much the MLB and various media outlets will showcase some of downtowns growth and resurgence by showing shots of cranes in the sky or cityscapes where new construction has occurred? They seem to do this kind of thing in other cities and especially now that I'm outside looking in I'm hoping to see the city sparkle this weekend on national TV!
