One more link. If you're interested in LA urban development in general, reading Chris Hawthorne (LA Times) is a great place to start: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la ... staff.html

I've mentioned Hawthorne before. Here's a recent Q&A about a "post-suburban LA": http://www.archpaper.com/news/articles.asp?id=8400

NYTimes: 36 hours in Pasadena
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016 ... ornia.html

Of note, LA recently hired away Pasadena's planning director. I applied for a low-level planning job in Pasadena last year, kind of as a shot in the dark. Perhaps because of turnover in the department, I didn't even get the generic rejection email for like 5 months

So LA may potentially permanently extend their sales tax and hike it from .5% to 1%.

Was just out in Los Angeles this past weekend. Bike and pedestrian culture had a lot of catch-up to do, but it is getting better each time I visit! One of my friends who lives there bikes to work because it is quicker than driving -- hopefully others come to the same conclusion!

Seems LA has as much debate about density and growth as anyone:

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.
