My wife and I have visited NYC three times, each time flying into a different airport. La Guardia was the easiest/cheapest for getting into Manhattan, but if the dedicated rail line mentioned in that article were to happen, Kennedy would be great.

Has author has ever looked across the airplane aisle at the wonder in a small town boy's face as the airplane on approach to LaGuardia made the turn up the Hudson and the Statue of Liberty followed by the most spectacular skyline in the world came into view? I ask if he has ever returned on the last evening flight from Chicago to LGA as the pilot announced," For those on the right of the aircraft I give you Manhattan." In all its lighted splendor the Statue of Liberty, The World Trade Center, The Empire State Building, Chrysler, Central Park. Who would trade this sublime welcome home for the weary New Yorker? What better introduction to the prodigious wonder of New York for the uninitiated? For all of the hundreds of times I have seen that view it still brings a lump in my throat and the melody of New York, New York to my ears. New York has never been easy but that is intrinsic in its splendor. Fix LaGuardia and keep this magnificent gateway to the city open in all its glory.
The folks who built the High Line will show you how to get it done.

You'd have the same approach to jfk if lga was closed (but port side views). Lga need to go. There was a good article back in 09 laying out why.

New York is even more ridiculous than Boston.
Part of the problem is the work rules for workers on the TBMs.
This union is one of last vestiges of Tammany Hall.

Pittsburgh has the Gothic Deco with the PP&G building back in the 80's. Wish the main tower was taller though. Was kind of design around the Rockefeller Center design with the plaza like the one in NYC. Was pretty much all glass as it should for a glass/window company. Was built similar to the Rockefeller Center campus. with some low rise building around the plaza that worked in with the Gothic tower.
Hope the chance that this gets build are good, considering it is Brooklyn and not Manhattan. I'm one that likes set backs in buildings. Especially when they are now being used at outdoor amenities and not just roof tops.

A large crane collapsed in Manhattan this morning. A tracked vehicle with a huge arm attached, rather than a tower crane.

Mayor de Blasio to Propose Streetcar Line Linking Brooklyn and Queens
The streetcar will run 16 miles along the east river. Details are scarce, but apparently some sections will have transit-only lanes and some sections work.
The City expects to pay for most of the streetcar with value capture.
Construction is anticipated to start in 2019 and service should begin in 2024.

Knowing next to nothing about NYC history, etc. it would seem to make a lot more sense for Hudson County (Jersey City-Hoboken-West New York) to be the 5th borough instead of Staten Island. Staten Island could very well be part of New Jersey, both politically and geographically.
