Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I was hoping for a good Mexican restaurant to open in the North Loop at some point. Unfortunately, this does not take care of that.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I am really really disliking this trend of opening chains or (versions of chains) of suburb bars in the north loop. Red Cow, Freehouse, Rojo etc!
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
But these are all local. I would not call any of those "chain" restaurants. To me there is a BIG difference.
"Chain" = Applebee's and TGI Fridays, national stuff
My $0.02

Agreed! I'm fine with any of the local 'suburban'-heavy companies opening more urban locations. Seems like a much better situation than having national chains try.But these are all local. I would not call any of those "chain" restaurants. To me there is a BIG difference.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
All three Red Cow locations are in the central cities. Yes, 50th and France is almost-Edina and they repurposed a saaaaaaad old Blockbuster, but that's still two blocks into MPLS. The StP location is spectacular.I am really really disliking this trend of opening chains or (versions of chains) of suburb bars in the north loop. Red Cow, Freehouse, Rojo etc!
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

And 6 out of 8 blue plate restaurants are in the two central cities. A seventh is 20 feet away from the Minneapolis city limits.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Speaking for myself, I was disappointed because I don't think their food is good... not because it's a chain. I'd be surprised if it did well in that location.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
This is a complaint I can understand. I do wish that Rojo was better and not so overpriced. It is like they are trying too hard x2!Speaking for myself, I was disappointed because I don't think their food is good... not because it's a chain. I'd be surprised if it did well in that location.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Funny - because it's in Southdale, I actually thought Rojo was a national chain until I googled it.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Rojo just does strange things with their food, honestly. Like whatever they put in their rice to make it sweet. We have so many better options for Mexican food around here, both in the cities and in the suburbs.
I imagine the rents in the North Loop aren't cheap, though.

Where was the Shag Sushi, don't remember ever seeing it when I've walk thru the NL? Is Rojo going into one of the empty spaces in Rosedale's restaurant row?
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Rojo is renovating the Macaroni Grill. Inside the mall. No word on filling the empty Flame or Digby's. I have a really hard time understanding why those restaurant spots fail.
Shag Sushi was on Washington near Freehouse and Bunker. Across from the big empty lot that will be the new 729 Washington building.

Has anyone heard anymore news/rumors on this? There is a deal in place to sell the Solera building.
I wonder what'll happen to their ghost sign along 9th? I kinda hope it's left alone.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Hubert's will be remodeled and re-opened as a gastropub run by the same people as Devil's Advocate

The bad news:
Stadium Partners is a new real estate venture led by Jonathan Bruntjen, with assistance from retired real estate investor George Nelson Jr. Not only will the investment group make money on the restaurant lease, the partners sees a ripe advertising opportunity with the two billboards on its property.

“The concept isn’t going to be a campy sports bar next to a stadium.”
What an awesome slap in the face to any claim that a stadium makes a neighborhood. This won't be a sports bar for a stadium, it will be a neighborhood bar for a neighborhood. Good to hear!

Loring Kitchen doesn't surprise me at all. I've never had anything there that I could remember the next day.
