A little over a year ago news came out that Pizzeria Lola was planning a second location next to Dangerous Man. I can't find any updates since then. Does anyone know if this is still happening?

I've been wondering about this recently as well!
Yay! Finally some information on the Lola's NE location, next to Dangerous Man Brewing.

Apparently CostCo bought a warehouse at 3311 Broadway St. NE on Sept 1st. Say it could fit a CostCo store, which would honestly be great if they could re-use an older industrial building instead of building a whole new store.

Glass half full or half empty? On one hand we get a Costco in MPLS, yay cheap stuff! On the other hand we're losing 160 good paying jobs to the exurbs and replacing them with ones that barely pay a living wage. Progress?

Okay,
"Our plans are to relocate the business within the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area by the end of 2016,"
This could mean literally anywhere in the entire metropolitan area. Tell me why you think they're moving to an exurb.

Also, CostCo is one of the few grocery/wholesale stores pushing to get their starting wage towards a living wage.

Costco's starting wage is 11.50. The average wage, not including overtime, is $21. Sounds pretty good to me.

Ok, maybe a tad on the dramatic side, but I think we've all seen enough business relocations and corporate speak to know that the larger and less defined the area they say they are looking at, the less likely they stay in MPLS.

Sigh. I've heard this before, and Obama loves to those that stat around and heap praise on Costco, but it's complete BS. That number is what you get when you take the wage for a front end floor assistant at $12 all the way up to a store manager at $30 plus and average them as if there is one of each. That's rediculous because as we know there are 10 or more of those at the low end for every supervisor. It's safe to say those Costco sales associates will not and never will make as much as those floor workers for immedia assembling interactive sales displays (which may ironically end up in a Costco).

10($12) + 1($30) / 11 = $13.63, not $21. #math

I'm surprised so many of you are Costco fans. I absolutely can't stand the place. However, I AM glad this is a conversion and not a tear-down.

That was exactly his point. The $21 "average" is if you take an average of all salaries offered. So instead of 20*$12 + 5*15 + 3*17 + 1*25 + 1*27 + 1*30 /(31)=$14.5, you take (1*$12 + 1*$15 + 1*$17 + 1*$25 + 1*$27 + 1*$30)/6=$21. So it's not really an average salary.

Yeah and my point is nobody calculates averages that way, not even Costco. You take all data points and average them, not one data point per class (wage) and average. If they say their average is $21, I assume that means the average of all their workers.

Uh-oh: http://www.startribune.com/costco-buys- ... 372454061/
...it won't be a retail outlet for its individual members.

The site, on Broadway near Interstate 35W, will be "a supply center for small businesses at that location," said Brad Ellis, the city's manager of zoning administration and enforcement.
Well that's pretty lame. It seemed so perfectly situated between their St. Louis Park and Maplewood locations, good access right off the freeway exit for folks coming from other parts of the city, Roseville, etc.

What the Hell. Like all the STP $$ zip codes are within 10-15 minutes of this location, as well at the U of M and Roseville. I need tires.

Well, if this helps keep smaller retailers and restaurants more competitive (will it?? I don't know!), is that a net benefit for the city when taking into account the re-use of the structure, jobs, etc at this location? I dunno. I could see a Costco geared here not exactly being a huge benefit to local residents who don't have a membership (of which there are many), especially if it kills even a few of the places they actually do shop at.

Plus, as that article notes, regular Costco members can still shop there, it just won't be as pretty of an experience as a typical store.

BUT will it have a liquor store (which anyone can shop at, per MN law. NO need for a membership.)
